Hi Guys

I am from SA and have a 2007 Accent.

Does anyone else feel that the ventilation fan on the Accent is very weak, I have to turn
mine to at least 3 if i want to feel the air moving.

My mom has a Kia Rio and hers is pretty much the same.

Is there any way to improve it, i have read that the Accents have a filter under
the glove box but not sure if that is true or not.

We do have a filter under the dash and if you haven't changed yours it's probably time. However, when I replaced mine there wasn't a noticeable mprovement in ar movement.

Don't know how you could improve the air flow.

Maybe a blockage somewhere? Mine is powerful on the 2nd click.

As a start I'd check the cabin filter to see that nothing is blocking it or it's not fouled up.

My car is due for a service soon, so I am going to get them to check it out.

Just hope they don't give me the usual, "That's normal sir" routine.

If yours does have the cabin air filter, yank that sucker out and see if it makes any difference in airflow. I've ran some for 30k before and were pitch black when I pulled them out - but didn't notice too much of a decrease in airflow. I usually try to replace them every 12k or so on this car though to keep the funk under control.

I don't get a whole lot of airflow at 1 with mine. I usually run it at 2,3 or 4.

One thing you could also check is to see if it's blowing air out the heater or defroster vents when it should only be blowing out the dash vents. If the dampers in the HVAC system aren't sealing off the ducts correctly, you'll have air going places it shouldn't and would cause less air blowing out your vents. That's all done by electronic controls and motors on our cars, so there wouldn't be much adjusting you could do unlike cars that rely on cables to close the dampers. My last car had the cables controlling it, I had to fight with those to get it to blow air in the right places.

Speaking of the cabin air filter does anyone know if there is a better aftermarket filter
or is the OEM the only one you can get?

The OEM ones are pretty good quality. On the aftermarket side, Wix is also an option.

You can probably find some universal activated charcoal filters, I know of some with other cars who had tried those... worked, but some said it reduced airflow to the point they were worthless.

I know it's time to change my filter. The dealership told me i needed it done and said they would do it for 90 bucks. I was like no thanks. Tyler (the boyfriend) told me he would change it.

Thats ridiculous to charge that much for a filter change.

Anyways, i probably will be ordering a filter from you in the near future

That is ridiculous. When the dealer changed mine, they only charged me for the filter. I had it done during an oil change.

It is very easy to access and change. I took mine out and it had a lot of dead insects in it. Bumped them out and replaced it since it was still nice and white.

90 bucks? Holy crap. The filter through Hyundai is 9 dollars (almost all cabin air filters are 9 dollars.. here anyway) and they take about 2 minutes to change. I pull mine out regularily and smack it against the floor to get all the loose dust off. all you gotta do is pull the 2 rubber stops off the glove box and the access panel is right there. Didn't even know it had a cabin air till i installed my A/C kit aha. My car only has 7000km's on it and the filter is near due for replacement already :\

90 bucks for a job that's no more than a couple minutes is ridiculous! I wonder how many have been ripped off by that? The filters even comes with a sheet outlining the procedure step-by-step with pictures, it's not fricken rocket science.

I went to get one the other day, they kept offering to put it in for free for me... Had to keep telling them no, I'll take care of it myself. :P They couldn't find the part number so they needed me to pull the old filter out so they could get it off that. The mechanic and I go out to the car, I start removing the glove box but let him finish taking it out as I wanted to see what his tricks were for getting the glove box out. They finally find what I needed, and he asks again if I needed help installing. No thanks man, I got this one under control, but thanks for trying to take care of me! Pretty good guys at this new dealer I've been going to.

Just a quick update, had my filter changed at the 30 000 km service(dealer changed it for free under service plan... )

And now the fan is like 110% better, i actually have my fan on 1 now and the air flow
is excellent, they gave me the old filter and it was caked in black stuff.

So now i know filters make a definite difference.

Ventilation now is like a turbine compared to the little mouse cough power it used to have before.

good to know. i didn't like where this was going, one thing that sold me on this car was how cold and strong the air worked. (just one of the things that sold me on this car by the way)
