G'day all, my dad has a 2003 Hyundai Getz 1.5L and its running really harsh. When started in the mornings the car will have a very harsh rumbling and vibrations throughout the hole car! So much so that you can see the steering wheel shake. This hangs around for about an hour until the car seems to warm up abit and then, as if someone flicks a switch, it returns back to its normal state of running really smooth and quiet! I've done the obvious oil change and injector clean, plus changed the plugs leads and coil pack and still thing the same thing happens. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem or if anyone might have any ideas to what it could be and how to fix.
The only thing i have come up with is that the engine mounts may be very stiff until they heat up abit but i could be way off.

Would appreciate anyone's thoughts and ideas! thanks guys!

Phill

prob not the cause of the vibrations stopping, but check the torque strap (bottom engine mounts/straps) because ive heard they do break after a while. will cause your engine to move a lot.

Hi. I have owned my 2002 1.5l Getz since new. It now has 85000km on the clock. Just recently i have experienced the same harsh rumbling and vibrations while the motor is cold. Like u this continues until the motor is at normal operating temp and then suddenly goes away. I had the car looked at by Hyundai a few weeks ago where they did the usual checks re computer errors. They also checked the engine mounts and found that there was definitely no problems. I have re-booked it into the dealer later this week where they will again keep it overnight and try a cold start. Hopefully they will find the problem and i will not be forced to feel like it is in my head and there is nothing wrong. Having owned it since new i know what sounds right and what sounds definitely wrong. Please let know if anyone has had this issue identified.

regards

Matt

Hi again,
Just got my Getz back from Hyundai, and after being told it was definitely not an engine mount, i now know it definitely WAS. An engine mount located towards the top of the motor had broken causing 'excessive engine movement'. I now have no vibrations and all is well. If u have this problem and u still have warranty get it fixed as it is not cheap. Hope that this helps out.

Matt
