I have a 2008 Sonata GLS and have had virtually no problems with it. This latest is vexing, though. For the first time since I've had it, I inadvertently ran the battery down recently. Since then, 2 strange things have happened. The first is that now the car automatically locks itself as soon as I turn the key on; I realize this is a safety feature and was told it was supposed to do that - but in the 8 years and 90K miles I've had the car, it never did it once - until now.

The second is more annoying: both my key fobs immediately stopped working. As it's both of them and it was instant, I don't think it's the key fob batteries but related to the car's computer and the dead battery. The dealer can reprogram BUT it might cost as much as $100 if they insist on running a system check.

Does anyone know a way to do this on your own? Such as having the car running or just turned to accessories and pushing the buttons on the fob in a certain way?

On my 03 the keyless box is behind the stereo on the left side and down a little bit. I've only programed a 3g sonata but you might be able to find it there. you might be able to go to a website that sells the keyless entry things w/ the instructions and just get the instractions. i think Original Keyless sells JUST the instructions for reprogramming but i have a hunch that might not fix the issue.

Thanks. I've e-mailed the keyless website and will have my hubby check on the location of the remote box. BTW, my message says 2008 Sonata but it's a 2000.

On my 05, the only way you could reprogram the FOB was to take it to the dealer. I took mine apart, and the switch that was there, isn't there anymore. There's a place on the PCB for it.... but there was no switch there.
