We just received a letter from Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. informing us that the 2007 and 2008 model year Santa Fe vehicles, produced beginning April 19, 2006 through May 29, 2008, and equipped with P235/60R18 tires fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110 , Tire Selection and Rims.

The black Certification Label affixed to the driver's side center pillar, visible when the driver's door is open, incorrectly lists the Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR) as FRONT 2976 lbs (1353 kg) and REAR 3197 lbs (1453 kg). The correct GAWR are FRONT 2910 lbs (1320 kg) and REAR 3131 lbs (1420 kg).

Hyundai Canada sent out a new GAWR correction label to be affixed adjacent to the current GAWR label.

I'm interested in knowing what GAWR information is labeled on the Santa Fe vehicles operating in the U.S. Is the information the same (for those vehicles produced during the same date range)? If so, has anyone in the U.S. received any such notification from Hyundai U.S.?

I interpreted the notice that Hyundai over-estimated the load capability of the tires on the 18" rims. Wonder what the GAWR is for the 16"s.

Yes it is for the United States also, i just checked my recalls list at my dealers service site and it has the recall listed.

Make Model Year Summary of Recall

HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2008 HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 3,387 TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESSES EITHER INCLUDED WITH A TRAILER HITCH OR SOLD AS A SERVICE PART MANUFACTURED BY THULE TOWING SYSTEMS AND DISTRIBUTED BY HYUNDAI FOR INSTALLATION ON MY 2007-2008 SANTA FE AND VERACRUZ VEHICLES. THE ACCESSORY TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESS CONVERTER MODULE IS MOUNTED TO THE TOP SURFACE OF THE REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT. HIGH CURRENT LEAKAGE OR A SHORT CIRCUIT OF CAPACITOR C1 COULD CAUSE HEAT RELATED DAMAGE TO THE WIRING HARNESS CONVERTER MODULE. EXCESSIVE HEAT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE REAR BUMPER AREA AND MAY POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A FIRE. HYUNDAI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND WILL REPLACE THE TRAILER HITCH WIRING HARNESS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 31, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151. HYUNDAI RECALL NUMBER 082.CUSTOMERS MAY CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

This bottom one is the Tire one.

HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2008 HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 88,943 MY 2007-2008 HYUNDAI SANTA FE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH P235/60R18 TIRES. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE LABELING REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110 "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES." THE BLACK CERTIFICATION LABEL AFFIXED TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE CENTER PILLAR, INCORRECTLY LISTS THE GROSS AXLE WEIGHT RATINGS (GAWR). OVERLOADING YOUR VEHICLE MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT HANDLING AND BRAKING AND MAY CAUSE TIRE DAMAGE, RESULTING IN TIRE FAILURE AND A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. HYUNDAI WILL MAIL CORRECTED CERTIFICATION LABELS ALONG WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE AFFECTED OWNERS. THE CUSTOMER WILL HAVE THE OPTION FOR DEALERS TO INSTALL THE LABEL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151. HYUNDAI RECALL NO. 084.CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

I got my sticker in the mail today too. Was it really worth a recall for 60 lbs? Did someone have an accident?

Its all about lawsuit prevention.
Its worth the cost of stickers and price of postage to avoid a class-action lawsuit.

Got mine.. I figured something bad had happened. How are they going to determine you were 30 lbs (US) overweight ? ? ?
Yep, some stupid class action most likely. That's like saying the car is 30 Lbs over the weight that was on the flier. Like that amount of weight would really matter.
A year + and 16K... going great.....
