I don't how many of you out there are facing the same problem I am facing. I drive a matrix 1.6A and it's only 9 months old but my engine sound is worst than a Taxi. Whenever I accelerate my RPM would shot up very high and the engine feels like it's going to explode.

I really feel like I am driving a tank on the road. I hope to hear from anyone who can advice on this or done something to improve on their engine.

this is almost impossible to say without hearing the engine. the most obvious conclusion being is the exhaust system blowing? best to have your local dealer have a listen and advise you

My Matrix engine is too very noisy too...

When I switch to gear 1 to accelerate, the car tend to feel rather too heavy to move and you can hear the engine over-stressed sound just to get the car moving. Then when I engage to gear 2 I would mostly slammed the accelerator harder because I realise "Oh man! The car is lacking power!" and as the vehicle engine touches 4000rpm, it started sounding like a acting-sports car and when I flat the accelerator hard, WHICH I DO NOT RECOMMEND OTHER DRIVERS TO DO SO, the meter swing even faster till it touches 6000rpm. I cant believe the redline is there for showcase....

Go to Komoca showroom and test drive a Matrix. If it is no different from yours, then you had to get use to it. If different, you just drive the car to the service manager. Simple as that.

Test car sometimes are able to revolve all the way to redline. I suspect most dealer change some settings themselves to allow their test vehicles engines to run smoothly and revolve-friendly.

See, I tried a few times and at last managed to touch 6500rpm. Man! The sound of the engine is very harsh. The funny thing is that I wonder how come my foot remained flat just like the days before, but this time the needle reached the redline.

From that day onwards, I feel scared to stomp the accelerator pedal flat because...when the engine touched above 6000rpm (from the needle), the moment the car stops, you can hear the engine still recovering from the over-accelerated moment. Worse, during that moment of flar throttling, I realised when I lighten my feet, the needle remains at 6500rpm for a few extra seconds before declining...so I suspect engine wear-and-tear has occured even more than average...

Me use Esso RON92..heard using RON98 will further cause engine roughness..
BTW you use Shell 92? How much per litre? I pay about S$60 for about 40-litre-plus of RON92 fuel.

U mean u fill up even before the vehicle near-empty light appears? I tend to fill up slighlty over 45litres on average.

Yellow light litted is an idication that the reserve tank will be in use means that you still have around 10-11lt of petrol left in the reserve.

It does not necessary mean once light on you petrol will soon be empty.

That's why it's good to know your per litre/km consumption just an estimation how far you can go before you tank left with no fuel.Good whilst travelling around MY especially H'way or unfamiliar territory.

what is your rpm when your matrix sound like a tank.

i am driving a 1.6 M . when i drive i seldom overshot 3000 and i would change gear.

1st gear 20- 25km/h
2gear 25-40
3 gear 40-60
4 gear 60-80
5 gear 70-100

the car is heavy meant for slow crusing
given its size advisable not to drive the car like a sports car ,
the bph is only 102 if i am right.

Hi Guys,

I've got the same problem with the engine sound. I'm driving the 1.8A. I agree with maszaini comment that the sound came from the belting/pulley/alternator..wutever attached to it. Could it be the bearing? Mine like most of the time which not only happened when I start the car in the morning.

With or without the aircond turn on, the sound seems to be the same. Refer to SC with reply the engine is fine! Just clock 3k plus its kindda weekend car

Read'n the posts I've been ****'n about the same thing, sluggish performance... then it would come good (run better at least) and other times Haul ****, anyway I picked up a ELM232 Scan tool and using PCMSCAN ( no connection) logged what was going on with all the sensors etc, but one thing that sticks out is the Spark Adv, under moderat acceleration its showing minus 18 deg (Firing ATDC) even at Idle its not stable the spec is 5 Deg but I regularly see it move around +/- 3-4 deg.

on the way back from my little field trip of logging I see that the
following are all steady while pulled up at the lights for a few moments
800 RPM
Eng Load 2%
IAT 65 deg C
ECT 89 Deg C
TPS 0%
however the Spark Adv is moving around anywhere from 11 Deg BTDC to 24 Deg BTDC

Earlier when it was accelerating ok then all of a sudden its a sluggish again only to see that Spark Adv has dropped from 24 deg to 8deg.

any Ideas ?
perhaps some of this will help others out tracking the problem if relatedAttached File  my_Spark_Adv_test1.lgf.zip ( 15.33k ) Number of downloads: 86

btw my Engine is noisy as well

Thomas
