I am in the process of receiving my new 08 white 3.3 GLS Santa Fe here in Ontario, Canada. My question is how long is reasonable to have to wait for your vehicle to come into the dealer. So that I may take delivery. So far it has been a week and a half. Called the dealer and said it could be another week or two!!!!!
Is this typical for Hyundai. I have bought Honda's in the past and never had to wait for a vehicle for more than a few days. Whether the vehicle was on the lot of having to locate one elsewhere. Just would like to know everyones thoughts. Thanks....

P.S. Can't wait to get drivin the new wheels..

Every dealer I know has several (even many on some lots) in stock. Are you looking for something unique?

It's a white, 3.3GLS V6 2008. No AWD... I don't think its unique at all... The kicker is that when I asked the salesman where the vehicle is he said it is at one of there compound storage lots about 40km away in another city... He also told me that he has to go by what head office does and this is how Hyundai operates.. Stating that some people have to wait 6-8 weeks!!!

I special ordered mine - Black w/Gray interior 3.3 AWD no options - and the dealer gave us one to drive for 3 weeks till it arrived.

Did your dealer loan one to you?

trekker...did you have to fight the dealer to get them to special order it for you? I know mine would fight tooth and nail to try to sell you one on the lot, even if it wasn't what you wanted.

SF2G08

My wife purchased her 08 SF Ltd. in April & the dealer pulled what she wanted from the Dealer stock at Vancouver Head of Hyundai. It was delivered in about 4 days.

They must not have a large inventory in your area of Ont.

My salesgirl told me if I didn't pick one off the lot I would have to wait a long time for one 'off the boat from Korea'. She had no answer when I told her they were made in Alabama.

Sounds like your sales girl "just got off the boat", if you know what I mean. :whistling:

I went between 3 different dealers and got the best deal from the one I bought from. All 3 had the same story - there were only 2 Santa fe's in the country that met my specifications - and the closest one was in Maryland which is about 400 miles from me. In the end, I had to pay a small delivery fee and my Santa had 400 miles on it but I got what I wanted. The dealer knew I was shopping around and he didn't have any problems with giving me a loaner.

We even had a written agreement if the delivered Santa wasn't right I could back out of the deal all together. ntm, it sure was nice to test drive one for 3 weeks before buying!

They have plenty in the area, This is one of the highest volume dealers in Ontario. They have many at a storage lot in a nearby city. Just seems like they are giving me the run around because it must be convience for them to wait.. I love how everytime I call some idiot has a different story for me. Even called Hyundai Canada, they werent helpful to me at all... Way different experiences from what I'm used to with Honda. Strike 1!!!

Will they even consider a dealer trade to get the vehicle? If not, call around to other Hyundai dealers in your area, they may have one on their lot and buy from them. The dealers do not have any control over when vehicles arrive from compund, even when ordered straight from Korea and enters Canada as a pre-sold unit.

That isn't terribly unique - I was recently at a dealer in Brampton, ON and they had 6 white Santa Fe's (not sure if they were GLS FWD's or not...) among about 20 total SFs. There are more than a dozen Hyundai dealers within 30 minutes of downtown Toronto and I'm sure they trade all the time to get something specific, so I'm guessing you are waaay north. Tell your dealer you are going to Toronto to get your car (and cheaper, I'd guess) and I'll bet they get it from that "storage lot" in a day!

BTW, Santa Fe's are made in Alabama and thanks to NAFTA can pass over the border by the truck or trainload to go nearly anywhere in Canada. If you ordered a purple plaid Santa Fe (not that you can, but...) I'd bet you could get it in a month from the factory with no holdups! The 2009s will be out soon (I think late Sept./ Oct.) so the only problem is that the 2008s will get scarce in about a month.

Finally got it, took about 3 weeks to the day... Was definatly worth the wait. I can't beleive how amazingly quiet and luxurious the interior is. The power is very nice too... Glad to be part of the Hyundai family now!!!
