My 2006 sonata came with 215 60 16 tires it is time to replace them can i install 225 60 16 tires in place of the oem tires. If i do are there any issues i need to know about? The dealer where i purchased the car seemed to think it would cause little problem. But before i buy new tires was interested in your opinions.

QUOTE(MABuch131 @ Jul 21 2008, 05:57 PM) if you want a wider tire you should prob go with 225/55/16
Not really looking for wider I just found a great deal on some 225 60 16 tires just wanted to make sure i would not have any problems if i switch from the oem tire size that came with it.

QUOTE(stan191a @ Jul 27 2008, 11:04 AM) :whistling: Hi all..Soon I`ll be needing tires. Bought my 06 3.3l sonata at 38k miles ..now at 46660 miles..original Michelins(just two left in the rear) are pretty worn down and quite harsh..The front tires are some brand x never heard of tire that is so harsh you feel every little imperfection in road. With my 02 sonata I bought those Goodyear Tripletreds and i felt I was driving a newer luxury car..what a great ride?? Not too soft but kep a great line and really ironed out the road..and it loved snow and water...I am not a big fan of Michelins..I would love to get the same unique patterning of the Goodyear TripleTred for my 06 Sonata even though it does have a very high speed rating. (I do not plan on cruising over 100 mph) So gentlemen I need feedback and perhaps others here do also as to the best performing, handling and riding tire for this car. I hope I am in correct forum. If I am not please forward to to the appropriate one. Thank You all, Stanley
If you like the tripletread, then get them. The Michelins are VERY expensive, and not a very good tire.

The Michelins USED to be expensive, now there only $123 apiece at the tire rack (for the 225/50 r17). I have them, and I don't like them. They may be comfy, but they squeal like crazy, I've only put 10k on them, but I don't see them lasting all that long. But maybe thats just my driving style :P

Hmm, I know they changed tire models for the 2007+ cars, but the last time I looked on tire rack they were still well over $200. Doesn't really matter, because michelin would have to pay ME to use those tires again.

Same here. I hate the michelin pilots on my 07 SE with the 17" rims. I hope to change them out soon to a slightly taller tire, but unsure how tall I can go? The 215/60/17 is my preference to replace the 225/50/17.

Iam glad somebody else posted about this and the Michelin's squealing. If I give it just a smidge too much gas the front end beaks loose (used to love that in the younger days when the back tires broke loose). and I get strange looks from people next to me not to mention the ear beating I get from the wife. I keep telling her "it's not me it's the tires" Do other tires act this way????
