When pulling away from a stop (light, sign, etc.) and accelerating (especially when making a turn), a sound comes from the rear of the car (i think, but not sure) which, to me, sounds like a semi truck is blowing his air horn from a 1/4 mile back or so. Kind of a mid-pitched, low volume, steady groan. It lasts for a few seconds than appears to go away. My wife normally drives the car, so on the occasions that I do, I'm inevitably looking in the rear view mirror for the truck I just cut off! Luckily, I didn't. I've seen various "noise" posts in this forum, but I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing.

I also have it, to me it sounds like its comming from the air intake. Have had everything checked out by the dealer and all is OK. I also checked all hoses and intake and everything was fine. It happens in first gear on fast accleration and goes away by the time the tach gets to 3,000RPM.

My Santa Fe did the exact same thing when it was new. It didn't do it all of the time, only when leaving a stop under moderate to heavy acceleration. It didn't make any sound when moving off under light acceleration.

The noise mine was making was definitely coming from the front of the truck, not the rear. It sounded like it was inside the dashboard or perhaps just in front of the firewall.

Mine went away on its own - must have been around the 6000 mile mark (13k on the truck now). It was exactly how you describe it - a medium pitched, moaning, "harmonic resonance" type of sound. I haven't heard it for so long that I had completely forgotten about it until I saw this thread.
