I have been looking at getting an '07 Elantra but have read a lot about the fuel pump problems mostly on Edmunds.com forums. Has anyone had this problem and how have the service managers been about replacing the fuel pumps? Does anyone know if Hyundai has acknowledged the problem or issued a service bulletin?

Thanks

Just bought a brand new '08 Elantra SE yesterday 8/21/08 and had to drop something off at the dealer today. While I was there I asked about the fuel pump recall because I had heard the same and a bulletin was just processed this week and my local dealer (Stateline Hyundai in Phillipsburg, NJ) received 41 new fuel pumps to replace the recalled ones. I'm getting a new one this coming Monday. So it is true and not a rumor.

Yes it is true, it is Campaign T57 and calls for replacement of the fuel pump sub-assembly. We received 22 pumps today with more on order.

This is not a recall to my knowledge, just a common problem. People with the problem will often fire a check engine light as well although off the top of my head i forget what the code is. The dealers should not have any problems about replacing the pumps. Its a known obvious problem. Inotherwords, dont worry about it.

Theres a rubber seal in the pump that gets out of place, and fuel pressure is lost resulting in the low engine rpm stumble and misses

All the information you need is included in the campaign bulletin attached here.

It lists a specific build date range, but when you take it into the dealership they should always do a search for open recalls by your VIN number and if yours is included they will know.

I don't think that notification letters are going out. As the cars come into the dealerships they are checked for open recalls. If yours is included it will show an open recall. Recalls are always performed regardless of whether you are the original owner or the 10th owner.

Also as stated before, when these fuel pumps are effected the engines are missing and running like crap, so you guys will more then likely go to the dealer anyways because of poor engine performance.

So if I bring my car in, will they put in the new parts?

If the design is bad then obvioulsy all elantras will need the replacement eventually. right

Here in Canada, recalls are out now from Transport Canada. Got the letter and the work has been done about 2-3 weeks ago. It was around the first part of October. No problems.
The recall is from a certain manufacturing time frame. before and after this time there is no recall.

cheers

I think to avoid confusion it should be noted that this thread WAS started back in JUNE, 4 months ago, referring to possible problems with 07 Elantras, not 08's.....the last post was in in August..I would assume the original poster made up his mind to buy it or not by now, but buying a late model used car will ALWAYS enable the owner to be subject to an ouright recall, provided they know about it...there is another whole thread on the subject of 08 Elantra fuel pumps, that is more up to date...

And only 2008 models, not 2007 from what I can see.
