occasionally I get a smell from the blow vents when first starting my 2006 Santa Fe and the smell does go away after a few mins, why am I getting that smell and what should I do to fix it? would it be possible that I have a coolant leak??

Sounds like a heater core leak.

first of all your car should be under warranty. the heater matrix is just like a very small radiator that is fitted inside the heater assembly, it's purpose is to radiate heat into the car if you have the heater on, you need to have your cooling system pressure tested at your dealer to check for any leaks, if the matrix is leaking it will mean removing the dash so that the heater can be removed and the matrix replaced, this is not an easy job and is best left to your dealer and it would be covered by your warranty

Dear Hyundai 81,

Concur. You have a heater core leak. Further evidence is when you turn the air selector switch to windshield, you will immediately fog over the windshield.

Nope...the heater core is behind the dashboard and completely contained. If you have coolant leaking from under the car, that's a whole 'nother ball of wax... :whistling:

However...when the A/C is on (totally different from the core), it is normal to get some condensed water dripping from the bottom of the car and into a small pool on the ground. This is totally normal.
