I had headers put on my 2000 Tiburon and i still have the rest of the exhaust all stock. When i am accelerating it seems like there is something robbing my power but will kick in and be normal when i let off the gas till i start accelerating again... Could this be becuase of the smaller exhaust not letting the increased air flow from the headers escape and cause too much back pressure? And would a high flow muffler help with this or will i need all new pipes and if so what size would i go to not lose my low end power?

Hi meerz306,

The challenge you are experiencing is possibly due to the situation you describe.

I will assume you vehicle is in stock/mild tune.

In order that an exhaust may scavenge more efficiently, it is worth remembering that in order to get more exhaust gas out faster, it is beneficial to get more fresh air/fuel IN faster.

To that end, I would recommend that you consider an intake modifcation of some description, preferably drawing a greater volume of cooler air from outside the engine bay.

You don't state whether your headers are the 4-1 or 4-2-1 type. Nevertheless, full benefit will not be gained from them until such time as your exhaust is modified/changed to suit.

Ona 1.8/2.0 in mild tune your exhaust should not be any bigger than 2.0-2.25" diameter otherwise performance and fuel mileage will suffer due to loss of back pressure. A standard cat will suffice.

Consult with a reputable exhaust shop in your area.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Trakka
