This months Motor Trend Magazine did a comparison against a whole slew of high quality 4Cyl cars and ranked them as follows:

1. Volkswagen Passat 2.0T
2. Hyundai Sonata (Only lacking the VW's verve; our #1 pick if a family comes
first.)
3. Toyota Camry
4. Honda Accord
5. Ford Fusion
6. Kia Optima
7. Nissan Altima
8. Chevy Malibu
9. Mitsubishi Galant
10. Dodge Avenger

In the same magazine is a big spread on the new Genesis. Magazine praised both cars pretty fairly.

As a first time Hyundai owner, and a 2009 Sonata owner of just over two weeks, I was very happy to see that the 2009 Sonata did so well in the comparison. It's always nice when a respected automobile magazine validates my choice for an economical, well equipped vehicle.

I still think the Sonata should be #1. VW's quality is horrid!

If I only knew the GLS would be worth $1500 more than my LX

with less features according to Motor Trend

Hmmmmm.... let's see, the retail value of the Sonata is $5,750 ?....

...Or is it $14,850 ?....

Or is my 4 banger selling for $5,750 while the V6 for $14,850? Hmmmm....

Am I to start taking my Prozac again?

Not to mention that they don't even explain WHAT "GLS" they refer to, is it the 2.4 or the 3.3.....

I'd expect Motor Trend to be a bit more professional in this respect.....

Or maybe just FOGGEDABOUIT.

Gee they picked a $29,000+ dollar car over a 22,000 dollar car. With a turbo and stick. All the others and the Sonata had autos. Thats like picking a 5 speed stick $29,000 Mustang GT with 300 hp V-8. Over a $21,000 Base Mustang 5 speed Auto with a 210 hp V-6. Still the Sonata smoked the all the others. And they only got 25.6 mpg with the SE. So far we have just over 2,800 miles on our Limited. And we are avg 30.5 mpg. This Wed i picked a another Sonata for the Wife. A GLS with the Popular Equipment Pkg. On the way home we were in lot of stop and go traffic. And we where getting 26.8 to 27.6 mpg. It funny the Dodge Avenger use's the same 2.4 world motor as the Sonata. And it got last place. I test drove a couple of Dodge Avengers (a old Mopar guy here) and i was very taken back by the car. It was super cheap inside, loud motor, no power, lots of road and wind noise. Plus the price of the Sonata was way better. To get all the options that the Limited had. I would have spent over $5,000 grand more. And still be stuck with a 10th place car. Like the Motor Trend said the Gaps between last place and first don't get any wider than this.
