I have noticed this problem too. We recently made a 1600 mile trip and at those speeds the steering wheel on our '07 also vibrates as you describe. I did not notice it initially, but that was probably because we were not driving as fast as we did on our trip. We usually drive 60 mph or under.
I did notice some difference in the vibration depending on road surfaces, but it was still there - only the amount of vibration changed. The car now has 8400 miles on it. I still need to take it in to have programmable options set the way we want them and let them rotate tires and/or balance them to see if it gets any better.
It may be the tires and it could be the suspension and the car. Nearly every car I have ever owned had some speeds where vibration was more evident than at others. This one seems a little worse than others I have owned.
I have also seen lots of "out of round" tires in recent years, even from the so called better manufacturers. You may be able to spot this by jacking up a wheel and rotating while placing something under the tire that barely lets it move freely. If the tire rubs against the object in a spot, then the tire is not perfectly round. I don't know just how far out of round a tire has to be to create the vibration, but it may not take much. An out of round tire can throw off even the best of balancing attempts.

LOL!!! Good one Thor (my Azera) has it, has had it since day one. I do not think the other one (Soo-Dae) has it. I have had little luck getting these kinds of vibrations fixed on any kind of suspension other than McPherson. Simple indeed; but everything is adjustable, so the can 'get it right'. Not a whole lot you can do other than toe-in on a double A-arm suspension; the geometry is just supposed to be right when it's put together, and that's that. If it's not... then :gitara:

:)
There is a Hyundai TSB on this "vibration problem" complaint.
In that TSB, Hyundai is saying what I have been preaching for years:
Get yee to a shop that has the Hunter GSP9700 balancing system and a tech who knows what he is doing, and your "vibration problems" will be corrected once and fall all! :amen:
I have never seen or heard of any vibration problem that can not be diagnosed and corrected using this Hunter system IF the tech simply follows the instructions that the Hunter computer says!
:amen:

:) In your case, it matters not whether the car is alighed properly. Your problem is simple. It is either an out-of-balance wheel and tire or an out-of-round tire or a combination of the two! There were some bad Michelins don't you know? No matter what the Hunter tech will try, nothing works, and the tire(s) have to be replaced. Michelin knows this and accepts the Hunter techs recommendations and will replace bad tires. :amen: :)

Some of these techs didn't get past grade five! That's why I usually like to say that for the tech to be able to correct any problems, he has to know what he's doing and bother to take the time and follow the directions stated by the computer. I have been to a Hunter seminar twice, and I feel that I learned enough to be able to operate that machine properly myself. It is that simple. Once, while having some plus one wheels and Michelins SUV tires rebalanced because they were way off (supposedly balanced by the TireRack prior to be shipped, but all four wheels had the weights on one side of the wheels only!) the local tech wanted to hurry up everything, and was passing on doing anything to correct this one wheel that was reading a Roadforce of 40 lbs. That is way over the limit! I told him to hold it right there, and went and got the shop owner. He knew I knew, and not only corrected that wheel down to 15 lbs Roadforce, but did all the other wheels properly also. When I informed the TireRack about this, they refunded the $40 I had to spend to correct their mistakes. It is too bad when any shop will pay the quite high price for the Hunter system and then turn some fluncky loose on it who either will not take the time to do the job properly, or simply does not care. :amen:
