Hi All,
I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata. I recently took it to a car repair center due to a loss in power. They informed me that the catalytic converters were bad and would need to be replaced. The total cost would be approx. $3000, with 120,000 miles on the car I was not interested. So I have decided to try and make it a DIY project. I have a couple questions….
1. Are there really 3 catalytic converters on this model? (one of the front three cylinders, one on the rear three cylinders, and one in the back)?
2. The bolts are rusted together and I cannot get them to turn. I have tried hammering on smaller sockets and using WD-40……what is next?
3. Any other suggestions or thoughts?

I say junk the lot and get headers...I did on my 03 and haven't looked back. Look for Tiburon headers on ebay...I got mine for $200...cheap ones work and take half a day to to install.
Okay, may not pass inspection in some states....but as long as the computer reads all is well, it passed in my state. If you need a cat, get a generic one off ebay for $50 and take it to a muffler shop and have it installed for $75...still WAY cheaper than $3K!
Or, hit up your local salvage yard and get them from there...should be cheap also...but headers give you more power and mileage...and a short ram intake installed and you will think you have a sports car....
If you need more specifics, send me a private message and I will try to help.
