car - 2004 Accent auto.- 1.6l - 97K miles
After battling a few months to get my check engine light - fault code P0304 to go off I finally remedied the problem with 3 bottles/fill ups of STP Gas treatment. This was about 1500miles ago. I go to DMV Inspection station and sat for an hour then wait anther 20minutes for the test to end and was given the big fat rejection sticker, she failed because the check engine light came on with fault codes P0304 & P0441. Now what the heck happened here? Just bad luck and coincidence or did their test set it off? Anyway the P0441 code is new and researched it is the Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Valve. Okay where is it, the HMA manual is not specific? In relation to the intake manifold where is it? Easy fix? And will this solve my P0304 code?
Let the replies roll fellas!!!!

Replaced purge control valve and cleared cdes with my OBD. Drove her 20 miles and the code did not appear however the P0304 code is trouble some. I did the basics , checked plugs, wires, coil (sprayed water for arcing), sprayed carb cleaner around the head gasket and no fluctuation in idle. Car went on 1000mile trip w/o a problem...avg 33mpg w/ a/c on in 90* temps. Car idels smooth and no signs of misfire & smoth accerlation. I cleared the code for now. But where should I go from here?

Hi everybody, new on the forum and i have a problem with that code PO441

I have an accent 2000 1.5 engine and the check engine light went on. I checked with the scanner and the code was PO441 (the one that you guys are talking about). I erase the code and it has not come again (3 days since that), but i am noticing a problem.

The last two times that i went to the gas station and put some gas, when i turn the key to start the car it crank but it don't start after 3 or 4 times trying. When it starts it does with difficulty, but it starts.

A friend of mine told me that the purge valve (the one that byronguidry3732 posted in a photo) maybe is faulty.

*What's the main purpose of that valve? I have a light idea but i'm not sure.

*Could that valve be faulty? Not sure since i don't have any codes?

*Or since i erase the code it will come up after a few cycles because the problem is there?

PLEASE HELP ME, I DON'T WANNA WASTE MONEY BUYING PARTS THAT WON'T SOLVE MY PROBLEM!

The purge control solenoid valve controls the fuel vapor emissions. Just a hunch but when your filing up and its hard to start there maybe a correlation in which the the quantity of gas now in your tank is not vaporizing properly even though it hasn't given you the code again. Or it could be your charcoal cansiter near the fuel tank which is pricey to repair. I would go ahead and replace the purge control valve since that was the initial code. I got mine for $37. from the dealer and less than two minutes to repair. Keep us posted.

Okay now when the wife fills up and tops off the tank the CEL lights for code P0304. And when I add a bottle of STP it goes out in 100miles or so. Any thoughts felas. Charcoal canister? If so, wouldn't I get a different code and it wouldn't take a full fill upand hard to pump gas into the tank.

I cheked the price of the purge control solenoid valve and they told me in two different places $78-$84 dollars.

WTF? :o I didn't knew it was that expensive!

Any of you guys know a place online that i can check if i found it for a reasonable price?

I checked on eBay and i found the valve, it costs $42.89 with the shipping and handling charges.

But yesterday i went to another local auto parts and the guy sold me the valve for $45, bought it, installed it and running the car. I will put gas tomorrow to see if the problem went away.
