Just bought an 2008 Elantra GLS. My wife bought a 2008 Elantra SE, that will be delivered this week. Do these cars have an Anti-theft alarm system? (not just a panic alarm button on the remote) On my GLS there is no flashing red light that indicates an armed system. I tried arming the system useing the remote while I was in the car with the doors closed, then opened the doors to see if the alarm would go off. Nothing happened. I also popped the hood and armed the system and then opened the hood and nothing happened.

Do you have to do something to activate the alarm?

Thanks

I was wondering the same thing with my SE. I did the same exact things, even rocked the car and no alarm.

I think there is a 30 second delay before they system arms unless you hit the lock button on the remote a second time. I know when I first bought my Accent, it was parked in the shop with the driver's window down. One of the techs had locked it with the remote and was finishing up the pre-delivery inspection... I was not aware it had been locked with the transmitter. I reached in and unlocked it throught the open window and opened the door and the alarm went off.

I don't think there is a delay. I went out after work then lunch and tried the doors and pushed the car and no alarm came on.

Ok, I went out and played with mine earlier... If you arm the system with the remote, you can unlock it with the key and get in the car without setting off the alarm system. However, if you sit in the car and arm the system, then open one of the doors from the inside (without unlocking it), then the alarm goes off. Also, the system does not have a starter disable feature, so it is simply a keyless entry system with intrusion alarm. It also does not have any kind of motion sensors (rocking or jacking of the car, etc).
