Hello. I have noticed the last few weeks that my car will not accelerate after immediately stepping on the gas pedal. I would have to continue pressing down on the pedal before it finally moves. This may take about two to three seconds. This problem only occurs when I step on the pedal the first time after starting the car (and usually after the car has not been used for several hours--such as going to and from work). Afterwards as I drive, the car responds normally when I step on the gas pedal. I have no problem starting the car.

Any idea as to what the problem may be? I have 146,000 miles on her (75% of it is highway driving). I had the fuel filter replaced at 75,000 miles and I am probably due for another filter (plus a tune-up).

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I have a 'gas pedal problem' too. Only when the engine is cold the revvs go down around -100 rpm when slightly tapping the gas pedal while idling. If I really hit the pedal revs go down around -200 rpm so I avoid doing this when eng is cold. When warmed up, eng responds 'like new'. My car has around 200.000 km. I think mileage is the main cause for our problems. The engine needs some time to warm up. I think this is normal so I'm suggesting that u use less throttle when eng is cold like I do to avoid unnecessary engine jumping.

cheers,
Mark
