QUOTE(stan191a @ Jun 29 2008, 08:40 PM) :innocent: Hi: Has anyone replaced the iridium plugs on a 2006 GLS Sonata with automatic tranny? I have the 3.3L engine and would like to get any info I can on doing this spark plug replacement myself. I already ready the info at hmaservice.com. What are the best plugs to use? Gap? My car has 49,000 miles and may have previously done some light towing. Need to change tranny fluid also. Well at least I think it would be a good idea. Can I do that myself also? Is there a drain plug on my tranny? How many make of quarts would I need for a drain and replace? Thank you for you time. Stanley stan1911@comcast.net :) Hi Stanley. With regard to the spark plugs, you may be a little premature in changing them now. If you are curious, pull one plug from the front engine bank and inspect it. My guess is that it is still in good shape. To change the rear plugs, you must remove the intake manifold. That will be time consuming for you or $200+ to pay someone to do it. There is no reason to waste money if it is not necessary. With regard to changing the transmission fluid, that is normally not something to do yourself. The problem is that when one opens the drain plug, most of the transmission fluid remains in the transmission. With out a special pump, we can’t get the old fluid out. Your dealership or most good mechanics have the required pump/machine. If you do it yourself, you risk leaving 60% of the old fluid in the transmission, which defeats the reason for changing it and may lead to problems in the future. Sadly, it costs $100 to $120 bucks to have it done correctly. But it’s better than paying $2,000 in the future for a new transmission.
