yeah 3k is good for highway, your going slow and getting good mileage, maybe 36-37mpg? i do 75-80 mph(sorry cant convert for ya) at around 4k 70 miles a day on the highway and get 34.5 mpg.

welcome to the "man i sure need a sixth gear" club. many members....but you are doing a lot better then most, even at 3-4k rpm.

I usually get about 37-38 MPGs and that's city and highway mixed driving. Today the fuel light came up at 387.5 miles. My fuel up is usually just over 10 gallons. Best fuel economy is between 55-60 MPH (100 KM/h??). Just FYI. You go above 65, you get negative impact on economy. Just the way the gear box is setup.

Use the neutral more - it's your friend. :)

We bought my wife's 2008 Accent just before the beginning of winter...not a good time to establish high MPG. With a mix of stop & go, city, country, & highway, she started with 30 to 32MPG...cold days lower still. It got near spring & her MPG got v.v. little better. Once in a while we'd drive to her mom's place, so her regular tank would have more highway driving & we would get 34...even 35MPG. I felt there was more to come.

Today, I took it to Mt. Rainier climbing to 5500 foot Chinook Pass. With plenty of stops for picture taking, & one long cool down, Janie's little Accent turned in its highest mark, a record 42.6MPG. My little 88 Ford Festiva that I'm so proud of for its thrifty ways(& I still have), couldn't have beat the Accent by 10% greater MPG. I'm quite sure if the right flat highway driving conditions presented themselves, the record 42.6MPG could not hold off an even higher record.

I've been blase about Janie's Accent up to now. But it'll get high MPG with some good feather footing.

a couple of tricks i have learned about my accent from differnt sources:

shift at or near 3k rpm - this made the biggest difference to my mileage....although the ecm seems to learn this style and u lose some low end torque. i had my suspicions but i drained my battery one night(ooops) and when i got it going again the next day and drove it, it had the original low end i "thought" i had lost... well i had lost it. but its a commuter car so i dont care.

coast in neutral if u have a manual - i do this ALOT! I read about some tards actually shutting their engines off and coasting...please dont attempt this at home, or ANYWHERE near me, kthnx

one thing i havent seen mentioned is NOT filling up your gas tank... it adds a lot of weight compared to say a qtr tank, isnt this actually lowering your mpg with the added weight? just a random thought...

smoke alot of pot on road trips so u drive slower - joking... sorta lol
