Well fellas, I just got home after a long day....got up at 6 a.m., drove 2 hours to Roseville Hyundai (which bills itself as the largest Hyundai dealership in California), and to make a long story short, I picked myself up a little present.....

2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 w/ the Premium Plus Package
(I skipped the $4k Tech Package because the only thing I really wanted that came with it was the NAV. I guess a Garmin portable unit will have to do)

So far I absolutely love this car. I think they got the suspension tuning just right for 90% of the buying public (some enthusiasts might prefer a bit firmer ride). The steering is also better than expected, but it's more MB than BMW. Initial impressions are that it's both more refined and a bit sportier than my 2006 GS430. I will do a proper writeup/photoshoot once I get the windows tinted and apply a few coats of Klasse, but for now I think I'm going to go lay down in the back seat and take a nap. j/k :P

Well, I think major congrats are in order! Please do let us know what you think of it.

I can't wait till we get our 4 that are supposed to be coming to our dealership just any day now. Even time a transport truck pulls into the lot I run outside to see if it brought us a Genesis or two.

That pic from the passenger side showing the dash makes the interior look absolutely huge! By the specs, it shouldn't be much bigger inside or out than the Azera. Is it as spectacular on the inside as the 09 Sonata?

The interior is overall nicer than any Hyundai to come before it. If the Azera is an 8, the Sonata is probably an 8.5 (nicer design, but no better quality), the Genesis is a solid 9-9.5. It's not perfect, but it's as nice as my 2006 GS430, that's for sure.

So far I have few complaints. I have to go out and take a peek at it in the garage every 20-30 minutes. The only thing I'm a tiny bit disappointed in is the lack of power folding mirors. The Azera has them, so why not the Genesis? It doesn't feel noticeably quicker than the Azera, but it's significantly smoother/quieter. The laminated side window glass is pretty cool. It literally looks like a window version of an Oreo cookie, if that makes any sense at all (there are two glass panels with a clear slightly rubbery layer in between).

 BRAVO! Congrats on the Genesis! I am truely envious of you!

I bet you get a lot of stares (of awe and amazment) from the other drivers as you're cruising along eh?

We got a bulletin from Hyundai about some dealer launch material information. In the bulletin, it describes the Genesis as "faster than a Porsche Boxster in 0-60, outperforms the BMW 5 series in braking, and is quieter than the Mercedes S-class".

I'm sure that's referring to the Genesis 4.6, but that's still some pretty big talk...

Did you have to pay a premium? I was talking to a local dealer, and they asked for $1000 premium..:(

Also, is your interior color black? I don't think I like the brown leather trim...

First of all. congrats. on your purchase, and thanks for posting the photos. (what's up with the different wheels on the last photo)?

I agree about the lack of power folding mirrors, a huge blunder.

I hope you didn't have to pay a dealer surcharge over sticker.

Happy motoring.

Nope. I got $500 off MSRP, which isn't too bad considering the car just came out IMO. The interior is black, which comes with the brown leather on the dash. The tan interior has black leather on the dash. The brown has brown leather on the dash & seats, and brown carpet.....too much brown for me. This is of course unless you don't get the Premium Package, in which case you get a huge swath of plood on the dash. Yuck!

The wheels on the silver Genesis are the standard 17" wheels that come on the V6 model. All the others had the Premium Plus Package which includes the 18" wheels. It's worth noting that out of the 5 they had on the lot, none of them had the Tech Package. Take it for what it's worth, but my salesman said he just got back from a training seminar on the Genesis and he stated Hyundai is having issues with the Nav system/multimedia controller and they wont' be available w/ the Tech Package for at least a month. It wasn't worth the addt'l $4k for me as I only cared about the HIDs and NAV. I guess I'll have to settle for a Garmin portable unit. On the plus side, the standard projection beam headlights seem to be pretty good so far.

I want one! They look amazing. I don't like the standard wheels however and your cars look awesome. That dark blue one on the end is very nice. My dealership has yet to get any, but I think we are expecting our 3 this week.

Are those chrome pieces on the wheels?

Holy CRAP man! I thought you were going to bring back PICTURES... you brought back a whole Genesis! Congratz! I sure am envious... but hey... it's real now, w00t! Nice, nice car... SUPER nice. You'll have to give us some impressions as you live with the car for a few days / weeks. BIG congratz too, you got a reasonable deal considering it literally came out a few DAYS ago, and in a very limited distribution. I guess, relative to the Azera, the suspension is fairly stable and quiet even over broken pavement?

Congratz, you're the first guy on the block to get a Genesis

Just echoing what's been said here. :w00t:

I've sat in a Genesis and they are wonderful. I hope they drive as nice as they look. Best of luck with the new ride! :57:

Just imagine, the lucky devil gets to drive to work in a Genesis this morning :P

I'm going to see if the dealer has one to test-drive today, NC probably won't get them for a few days more. I won't come home with one though. Just dying to see it in person, see how it feels behind the wheel.

Actually, this lucky devil has the day off! :bwekk: Sorry, I had to rub it in.

Thanks all of you for the kind words. I just got done washing the Genesis and putting a coat of Megiuars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 on. I'm planning on taking some better pics later today while I'm out picking up an iPod cable....hopefully I can find one that works on the Genesis. I can't tell how you much I am enjoying this car. The paint finish is amazing. I'm REALLY picky and I found only two very minor flaws on the whole car. There appears to be a small fiber/hair in the paint near the driver side C-Pillar (it's only visible if you are like 2-3" away) and there is some piece of debris under the paint on one of the wheels. Maybe a small piece of dirt. Either way, the paint finish easily beats ANY car I've ever owned, and that includes my Lexus & BMW. It has such depth and gloss with virtually no orangepeel.

Anyway, have a great Monday everyone! I'm out to go take a spin in the Genesis.
