I own a 2008 Elantra, which I purchased six weeks ago. It was towed to the dealer for the second time in two weeks today. The problem is that it randomly loses power until even with the accelerator all the way to the floor, it will only go about 20 miles per hour. Then it just cuts off. Then, when I try to restart it, it will start, run, and idle roughly, and cut off. After it sits for an hour or so, it will start and at least idle smoothly again. No check engine light or other indicators are showing. The computer shows no faults.
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem? Any ideas?

Got it back today. This time there were error codes. The dealer called Hyundai who said replace the fuel pump.

Yesterday my new 2008 Elantra SE suddenly began running rough while traveling at 60 mph on I-205. The weather was hot for Portland, 95 deg. It felt as if it was running out of gas, but the tank was half full. We got off the freeway and limped home on surface streets, bucking all the way. We struggled to make it up a 10% grade and had to pull over twice. After letting the car sit a bit it regained enough power to make it up the hill, barely. The check engine light came on shortly after the rough running started. The car has only 1100 mi on it and has performed perfectly up until now. From what I read here and elsewhere, I have one of the bad 2008 Elantra fuel pumps. It's off to the dealer tomorrow am. Fortunately the nearset dealer is only 2 mi away and mostly downhill from here.

QUOTE(alcourts @ Jul 13 2008, 11:51 AM) Yesterday my new 2008 Elantra SE suddenly began running rough while traveling at 60 mph on I-205. The weather was hot for Portland, 95 deg. From what I read here and elsewhere, I have one of the bad 2008 Elantra fuel pumps. It's off to the dealer tomorrow am. Fortunately the nearset dealer is only 2 mi away and mostly downhill from here. Was it diagnosed as a fuel pump problem at the dealer?
