We drove down to Champaign IL yesterday and there was this nice, white V6 Sonata, and something looked funny.... It took me some time to realize the wheels were different.... Like old fashioned cars, there was this black "frame" with round holes in the inside of the wheels. While in our cars we can see thru the whole brake mechanism, this car I saw nothing but that UGLY black thing.

WTF?

If you mean that the steelies were behind the actual wheels/rims, I believe the lower end models had them. They were silver and had around 6-8 spokes right? It was probably an 08 because starting that model year, you could pick the engine for each trim level.

Sounds more to me like those brake dust shields you can put behind alloys to keep the brake dust off of them.

Yes, they were behind the alloy. It was a V6. The guy was actually parking, so I had a chance to have a close look.... Never saw such a Sonata.... Sure looked cheap and old fashioned to me.

I think it was a V6 with hub caps aswell. I dont think its fair that a V6 should be offered on the base model aswell? Anyone else agree?

Mama,

I'm not sure what model year you're referring to but I can confirm the existence of 09 V6 models with steel wheels and hubcaps - one was sitting next to me in traffic a week ago.

No offense to those who have that combination but they just don't look right.

-N-

Yes, Brazzel's loaner, yes, that's the exact one....

It was NOT an '09, that I'm sure. And there were no hubcaps, just look at Brazzel's picture.

Steelies. Comes on base model with the wheel cover seen in the pic. Have them on my '07. Wish I could find a cheap set of alloy wheels...

GEWB

The black with the round holes is the steel wheel. The silver 6 spoke thing you see is the plastic hubcap and it is held on by plastic rings on the lug nuts. Here is link to ebay Sonata Hubcap And a pic also
