Hi all. I am a new 07 SF GLS owner and am loving it so far! However, my wife has just asked me if we can tow a small trailer (i.e. U-Haul) from Iowa to Minneapolis. I know we don't have the towing package etc. Is there a way to have a hitch and wiring installed aftermarket that won't cost a ton? I expressed my doubts to her but I don't know a whole heck of a lot so I figured I would come here. Thanks very much!

I would jsut buy the tow package from the dealership adn have them install it. I've only seen one after market on for hte Santa Fe's and it needed a lot fo work to make it fit.

I just picked up a hitch from E-bay ($139 with shipping) '07 SF limited. Fits great, well hidden. You need 2 people to install and a very long socket extender for the two back bolts. The 2 closer to the fender need a swivle joint. Took about 15 min, grease those bolts so they'll come out later. It's a thick flat steel, 2" receiver. It goes under the two mufflers so nothing had to be loosen or removed to install.
This was my 4th hitch I installed on various cars.

I don't know why KOMPTEK said there are no hitches for the Santa Fe that work very well. Maybe none in Canada but plenty here in the States.

Like MBUTKUS said, you can get some really nice hitches for very little money and they install very easily. They are made specifically for the Santa Fe so there is no modifications necessary.

I bought mine from

http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-2007_Hyundai_Santa+Fe.htm

You can also buy the wiring harness from them. It is plug and play. All Santa Fes are set up for the harness.

The Hitch took me 30 minutes and the Harness took 15 minutes. I was working alone but if I had a helper, the hitch would have gone just a bit faster.

I also bought a hitch an wiring harness from Etrailer, and it was almost very easy to install both, the only problem was trying to tighten down the bolts due to the limited space, I think the entire operation took me a hour.
The dealer wanted to charge me about 500 to do it, I paid less then 300 plus a hour of time.

I spoke to the dealership about how it may effect my warranty, and he said it won't unless I made a mistake, the harness was the only thing that could have cause a problem but it was so easy, just plugged two items in and was done.

This will have no affect on your warranty what so ever, unless, of course, you attempt to tow a large yacht or mobile home. :)

I recently installed a Draw-Tite class 3 hitch (C$160) on my 08 Santa Fe . Research shows that class 3 hitches from Reese and Hidden Hitch are the same as the Draw-Tite, apparently all made by the same manufacturer. Install can be done by one person, but you need some sort of improvised stand to hold one end of the hitch close to the pair of receiver nuts, which are welded into the chassis frame rails. On the other end of the hitch which you are trying to fasten, use the jack from the Santa Fe to raise and line up the hitch and the receiver nuts. Word of advice!!!! Make sure that the securing bolts fully engage all 4 ( two per side) of the frame rail receiving nuts, before even setting up the hitch on stand and jack. In my experience, the threads on the receiving nuts on the driver's side were not clean, preventing proper engagement of the bolts. I found this out, of course, after I had already threaded in the bolts on the passenger side. Off to House of Tools for a tap to clean the threads of the frame rail nuts and a die to clean the threads of the bolts, which had been slightly damaged. Use the tap with care as you risk making the frame rail nuts totally unusable. The tap and die are metric, specifically M10 X 1.25. You'll find that this matches up with the bolt size specifications on the install instructions. Back to the install; you will need several lengths of socket extensions, and a long socket, to properly facilitate completion of the install. You will need a torque wrench to torque the 4 bolts to 71 LB-Ft to finish the install. My install was done to facilitate the use of a hitch mounted Yakima King-Pin 4 bike rack, which is highly recommended. As I don't need any electrical hook-up, I have no advise for that procedure.

Just bought a Santa Fe and joined the forum.

Picked up a new 2008 Santa Fe SE. Replacing a 12 year old Trooper that has been dead reliable. The Santa Fe won't have quite the ruggedness, but it'll be useful. Needed a hitch. The hitch web site mentioned is actually south of Atlanta. I called Friday and confirmed they had Draw-Tite hitch and wire connector in stock. Went down to their shop and had them install for about $250 total. I have the tools to install but not much time, and their guy did a really nice job routing the wiring to come out in the jack bin.

Looking forward to getting info and sharing any intelligence on the board.

The towing package comes on 3.3 L Santa Fe's but it is just the wiring harness, the hitch install the same on either the 2.7 or 3.3L (just requires different wiring setup, both cost the same) and can get either a dealer or aftermarket hitch (even here in Canada) although the dealer ones seem to have a sort receiver, making the ball way too close to the rear bumper.

Regardless of the receiver hitch "Brand", they all seem to put the ball fairly close to the bumper.

One just has to be careful when hooking up a trailer so as to not hit the bumper, causing cosmetic damage.

I have a 2007 Santa Fe SE 3.3L and installed a tow hitch and wiring myself. My question is: Is the '07 3.3L Trailer Ready? If yes, towing weight is 3500 lbs. If not, the manual says, 2000 lbs. I've heard it is, but is it? I have the wiring harness, what appears to be a transmission cooler (athough small), and the twin fans on the radiator. It would appears I have what is included in the Towing Package, but do I have it?

I would say you do.

My 3.3l 08 on the sticker said towing package.

In fact, a quick walk past all the 3.3's had the towing package.
