Hello,

Used 1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS wagon

Recently my speedometer, odometer, and cruise control stopped working at the same time. I bought the car in August 2006, and they have worked until just recently (June 2008).

I understand that the odometer relies on the speedometer cable, however I don't know why the cruise control died too at the exact same time.

The cruise control switch on the interior center panel still works just fine, the light comes on and everything. When I try to set the cruise control speed with the multi-function switch arm coming off the steering wheel, it does nothing. The light on the instrument cluster does not illuminate, and cruise control does not engage.

I also have no idea how the speedometer gets its readings from the engine. I've taken out the instrument cluster and can see that there is a connector inside the dash that slides into the back of the speedometer gauge, but I cannot find any detailed descriptions or diagrams on hmaservice.com for where to look for the speedometer cable, speed sensor, or anything like that.

I have checked all fuses visually and with an ohmmeter both in the engine compartment, and in the accessories fuse box, none are blown or otherwise damaged.

Any suggestions or nudges in the right direction are greatly appreciated!
