We are getting about 24 mpg (US) in our 2007 3.3l limited, but we have only been able to get 16 gallons into the tank at the most. I did manual calculations and the computer is calculating the mpg correct, but the tank size on these models are 19.8 gal.

With that in mind we are approx 320 miles to the tank (which is what the fuel range say at fill up), but if it is a 19.8 gallon tank our range should be over 400 miles not 320. When the fuels is low the light comes on under an 1/8, and the range says about 40 miles to go. I have pushed it a bit and the range indicator will go for a while and then suddenly to nothing.

Can the reserve really be 4 gallons? If it really is 4 gallons then why doesn't my range calculation compensate after fill up for the whole 19.8 especially when we are getting 24 mpg?

Is anyone else having probs or has anyone put 17-19 us gallons into the tank?

Funny HMAservice site states Fuel Tank Capacity 80 lit. (21.1 U.S.gal., 17.6 Imp. gal.) maybe its using the imperial measeurement for calculations

All the literature I've seen states 75 litres capacity - including the handbook. (19.8 US or 16.5 Imp.).

My biggest fill is 67.2 litres (17.8 US or 14.8 Imp.) and I wasn't trying to run it down to fumes. However, I do fill to the brim but I don't know if the quoted 75 litres capacity is to the brim or whether there is a bit of spare capacity in the pipe.

However, why would a US gas pump only get 16 US gallons into a 16.5 Imp. gallon tank? No idea.

Hyundai appears to be extremely conservative so you don't run out of gas. I've had it down to range 0.0 blinking after the gas light was on for a while, and still filled up with less than 17 US gallons.

So I like this kind of thread. My OBC range metre zero's out at 30 miles, Which I find to be a real pain. If you have read my other posts you will know that I do a lot of mileage.

So when my range metre zero's out I flick it over to ODO and zero the ODO out figuring I can go 30 miles before I need to fill it up.

Anyway, I always carry a small gerry for emergencies, so one day I decided to run it until the engine starts to cough, being a diesel you have to be a bit weary about running out of fuel completely.

I can confirm your suspicion that you can indeed get at least 44-46 miles out of the car once the range metre drops to zero.

I lost my bottle at 45 and pulled in to fill up. Obviously that figure will be less if you are running petrol but I do think the range metre is very conservative.
