Colder Air = More fuel being let in = More Power
Hot Air = Less fuel being let in = Better gas milage.
Only down falls of a low mounted CIA is when you hit a large puddle of water it goes straight to the motor and BLAM. You just bought alot of repairs or even a motor.
Have you checked in to a By-Pass Valve. They work as a safety valve incase the intake gets flooded. To tell you the truth, I have no idea where to get one, just hate the thought of loosing a motor.
it takes X power for a car to drive around at 60mph, that does not change regardless of your intake, so the CAI should not hurt mileage. It most likely will hurt mileage though, because you will be having fun accelerating harder with it, lol.
with all the plastic around the wheel well on the sonata getting splashed with water is not a concern at all, the filter itself is still mounted high up in the space as well, so the only way your going to get it submerged to the point of hydrolock would be to park the car in a foot or more of water.
to fit a bypass valve on the intake we made would not be possible. It would have to be completely redeisgned, but again, its not necessary. The only person i know with a CAI who had his car hydrolock went into a puddle that was a foot deep, in the middle of a rain storm, while driving through normal and large puddles his intake was fine.
As Dogstar already said though, his intake has been on for a year now, driven in low winter temps and high summer temps. never a problem with the filter being wet (and he did check a couple times after heavy rain driving), or getting excessively dirty.
i have some pipes for the intakes in my garage and may start working on them this weekend since i'm not busy with anything else, no promises though. But rest assured, Dogstar and myself have not forgotten, just are too busy with our day jobs.
