I agree.. manual all the way. coming from someone who drives an accent in an automatic too.

I perfected the manual transmission driving skills a little too late. I still love my little accent in an automatic though

I like my automatic a lot... But I think you'll make that transmission explode if you're too hard on it or if you try to make it handle more power than stock... :w00t: It's simply not designed to handle that, it just isn't beefy enough.

I'll play the devil's advocate here and say this:

The manual transmission is geared too short to be a good match for a turbo. The auto is geared much better for a turbo, but I have no idea how stout it is.

True... If the auto could be built up, that would be a different story.

Manual if it is going t be built. I have an auto in my Accent, but I have a Camaro for my speed toy and my wife's 5spd Elantra for my other needs.

first gear would result in massive traction issues but second and third would pull fine with a turbo... but without a turbo i think its a perfect match it makes the car feel faster and gives you an adrenaline rush unlike the slushbox automatic. just my personal opinion no hate to you auto guys :innocent:

I agree that the 5-speed is a good match for the car in N/A form. It makes it peppy around town.

The problem is that boost isn't just based on RPMs, it is based on air flow through the engine. This means that boost and RPMs are not directly related. The engine load determines how much air is flowing through the engine. As a general rule, lower gearing = lower engine load = lower boost.

This of course doesn't take into account how well the turbo is sized for the engine. But with the 5-speed... you'd need a pretty tiny turbo to make the system not lag.

I'm not saying the turbo wouldn't make a 5-speed car faster or anything. I just think you'd get better bang for your buck with a turbo on an automatic Accent. I love this devil's advocate thing :whistling:

Definately manual!! I like having more control over my car.

I have a question though. Does anyone have a difficult time every now and again shifting into reverse and sometimes 1st gear?

I have an '08 SE. Other than that it runs awesome! It only happens occasionally where I have to sit there and fiddle with it a bit.

Glad to know its not just my car then. I'm glad the shifting feels really tight, but reverse can be annoying at times, and then other times its fine. I guess its just one of those lil' accent quirks!

reverse needs you to be at a full stop, first gear i would say the same, downshifting into first unless your going like less than 5 mph is dangerous.

Yeah, the reverse prob always happens during the morning, when I first start the car. Its not moving! As for first gear, I never shift into first unless I'm stopped or rolling at a stop or signal. I love my car, its just annoying trying to put it into reverse in the mornings sometimes...

yeah when I said reverse sometimes I mean when Im completely stopped because you can damage the transmission if you are not completely stopped.

The first thing I do when Im driving out of my garage is reverse and sometimes it just wont go into gear unless I depress the clutch like half the way instead of all the way down.
