Hello,

My 02 1.6 l automatic transmission accent is acting up. Only has 33,000 miles on it

After driving for maybe 10-15 minutes if I slow down and the car tries to downshift it will bang.

After this happens I usually cant get it out of first, it will just rev high with no power, so i have to manually put it in second then to drive. this helps to drive, but then when it downshifts it will bang again and the situation comes again.

I just had some A/T fluid added by my mechanic today, he told me to drive around after that was done and see if i still had the issues. I do...

My next step is a tranny place, but this seems expensive.

any knowledge on this is helpful.

I do have a check engine light, but i do not know the code and i do not think it's a tranny code.

Similar thing happened with my 2002. It turned out to be the pulse generators, one of the wires had broken. I have to say that taking it to the dealer saved me a lot of grief. They diagnosed it in like 20 minutes. Are you using the Hyundai tranny fluid?

i have never changed the tranny fluid, my mech just added some for me, i am guessing he's using the specified type from the manual.

How much did the pulse generator or wires run in total?

AAmco is charging 786$ for the new pulse generators, 3 hours of diagnostics and a power purge.

i find that to be ubsurd, but what am i to do?

I had a similar problem with my accent. turned out i needed a new transmission, there was alot of metal when they dropped the pan. it only had 18,000 and then less than a 1000 miles later i was back for a second transmission...
I noticed i also have a mystery electrical problem that got better when the weather is warm... when i put the key in the ignition i get shocked and it shorts out my radio. and now if i drive my car to much it gets suck in 3rd gear and wont shift at all... i suggest taking it to a hyundai dealer if you can because they are specialist in fixing hyundai problems... and even if your the second owner the warranty should cover it...
