Hi All,

I've looked up the final drive ratio for the Accents, both manual and auto. The numbers I've seen listed are 4.06:1 for manual and 4.04:1 for autos.

For some reason I thought there would be a bigger diffence than that. That's nothing and both should be running about the same rpms for the same speed.

I've read posts that claim autos run less rpms than manuals at highway speeds. How can this be?

What am I missing here?

Well, I'm going to answer my own question.

Final Drive Axle Ratio : 4.04:1

Drivetrain : Front Wheel Drive
Trans Type : 5
Trans Description Cont. : Manual w/OD
First Gear Ratio : 3.62:1
Second Gear Ratio : 2.05:1
Third Gear Ratio : 1.37:1

I saw a Formula I driver pull out of the pits & start racing down the pit lane(this before speed limits). He got a call that he had to come back into the pits. Instead of circling the race course & coming in, he skidded to a stop. In reverse he backed up at 70 MPH to his pit crew. So get ready to race....in reverse. Watch that steering. You'll flip around if you don't know what you're doing!

I have a manual version 08 accent, 3000 rpm at 100km/h in 5th gear. What is the rpm for the automatic version at 100km/h in 4th gear?

I had a nice little table broken down with readings from the ScanGauge for RPM's at various speeds with my automatic... But since there's a thousand different threads with people complaining about their manual transmission's gearing, it's buried I can't seem to find it.

At any rate, best I can remember I'm not getting up to 3,000 RPM until way after 70 MPH/112 km/h

so automatic version can save more gas than manual. Why would hyundai make somethings like that.

I'm not sure. I used to do 3,000rpm's at 65mph, but once i added my SRI and Muffler, I noticed more lower rpms at higher speeds.

I agree the manual tranny is geared too low. If you drive like most people, the auto tranny should beat the manual tranny on higher speed freeways. Lower speed highways the auto tranny might not beat the manual tranny. Me...I just turned in 45+MPG on a country drive with my wife's 2008 manual Accent. The auto tranny probably would never do that under any conditions.
