So I've had my 09 Limited for 5 days now, and I'm already thinking about modifications. I'm not a heavy modder, but I do like it when everything looks integrated and clean. I've got a Navigon 7100 Nav system that actually fits perfectly in the middle compartment of the center stack, and I've decided that I'd like to mount it there semi-permanently. This would require power (which I've already figured I can run from the outlet in the armrest and snake up into the back of the compartment) as well as external hookups for the traffic antenna and GPS antenna (again, through a small hole in the back of the compartment). Does anyone have any idea how to get that compartment out? It looks as though it will require at least a partial disassembly of the center stack, but if anyone has any simpler instructions or ideas, I'm open. Also, since I'm relatively new to the vehicle, any instructions on where to start on the center stack would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance.

Man you got a 09, usually on the 06-08 all you got to do is drop down the glove box, take some screws in there and pull out the Carbon fiber or wood trim out, then you got access to the stereo etc. On the 09 it might be the same thing, FIY most of the plastics are being hold by some white plastic clips that fly everywhere when you pull stuff out... they go for around .99 at the dealer for a set.

If you are talking about where the shifter is, well I guess all you have to do is look for screws and pull away... i'm just trying to help, if someone knows more please shine in.

On the 09's, there are two cubbies / compartments directly in front of the shifter on the center stack. The lower cubbie houses a small compartment (perfect for change) and a power outlet. Directly above that is a larger compartment that it just an open space about 4-5 inches deep, 5 inches wide, and 4 inches tall. That's the compartment that I'm looking at. When the Nav is mounted, i should be able to close the slide up lid and completely hide the nav. I'll check in the glove compartment and see what I can find and go from there. Thanks for the advice.

hmmm.... Checked the glove compartment last night. There are a few screws located behind the glove box, but those seem to be more dash to firewall related and less center console related. of course I could be wrong. There was a single screw that went into the wood trim piece. I'll try that and see if that leads me anywhere.

Just got a call from a friend that run's a garage here in town. They just got their updated version of shopkey (software that contains repair instructions / diagrams for all major makes / models), so I'm headed over there this afternoon to see if I can locate some instructions for the center stack / dashboard disassembly.

Why can't you use the power outlet just below the compartment your looking at?
Wouldn't that make more sence?

Of course I could, but then I'd have to use the ugly suction mount to attach the GPS to the windshield, and run the traffic antenna around the glass, and generally either deal with the hassle of taking all that down every time I'm done using the GPS, or leave it all up and deal with my interior being uglied up by wires running everywhere. If i can run everything into the back of that compartment, then i can keep the GPS "installed" when I want to use it in my car, keep everything looking clean and integrated, and then just unplug everything and take it to my wife's car (with an additional charger, antenna, etc).

Haven't actually taken out the compartment, but this will get you started:

1. First open the lower smaller compartment door. Now pry the trim around the shifter knob up. You don't need to remove the knob itself.

2. Start at the bottom and pry each side trim piece that surrounds the compartment.

3. At this point anything holding those compartments should be visible.

If for whatever reason you want to go further and remove the radio, follow along..

4. Remove 1 phillips screw (2 total) from below each TEMP button on the radio/ac bezel.

5. Now starting where you removed those screws you can pop the entire radio/ac bezel. Unplug all wire harnesses and remove.

6. The radio itself is now held on by 4 screws.

Not 100% what part your talking about here, but on each side of the center console is a removeable panel. The driver side panel goes from near the gas pedal to about mid way up the side of the console, and the pass side goes from near the pass floor area to mid way up the side of the console. Each one is held on with pop clips and a slider. The slider for each one is on the firewall side. That means if you pry that end first, you will break the slider. Start at the end of the panel which is mid way up the side of the center console and pull there are maybe 2 or 3 pop clips there. Once you pop that slide the panel toward the rear of the vehicle to disengage the slider part. To reinstall obviously slider side first, then push clips.

Official documentation from Hyundai. Had to bug their tech support department at HSAService.com, but finally located what I'm looking for. Sign in to the website, under "Shop", then go to "Body (Interior and Exterior), then "Interior" and look at the documentation for "Crash Pad". Everythings right there to take the console apart, but in the end, the instructions are essentially the same as ICE-Showcase's. Thanks again everyone for your help.

Thank you a million for the info.. It looks like it could be easier than I anticipated.. From what you have documented and described, I can easily run the wires from the center compartment back under the console.. How hard was it to get them from the rear end of the shifter panel, under the drink holder and on into the arm console compartment where the power and AUX input jack are? I'm sure I could figure it out with time and on-the-job experimentation, but learning from someone who has done the job reduces frustrations and the purchasing of replacement parts that have been damaged during dis-assembly as was the case on my 2005 Sonata.. Thanks again for ALL YOUR EFFORT.

Where did you put your antenna? Since I am doing this for Sirius, I plan on putting my micro antenna under the covering on the rear package tray.. I like you want to conceal everything and make the installation clean and professional looking..
