I have fished around here and seen a couple of people with the same problems. One being the headlights dim when slowing down usually around 32mph. It’s the strangest thing. I will be driving along say 50 or so and your coming to a street that you are going to be turning. you let off of the gas, the headlights will dim ever so slightly, then as you slow down and it gets to 32, you can feel the tranny stop resisting, or disengage and then I get a big headlight dim and the fan slows down (Note im in Arizona and yes the a/c is on its 115 degrees here)

The other is my differential oil seals are leaking, It’s in the dealer as we speak for these problems. They say its called "sweating" and its normal. There is nothing that they can do about that. My other cars don't do this, including my friends Santa fe with the same motor.

I am truly at a loss, the dealer thinks im crazy, but there has to someone out there that has these problems and has had them fixed.

Thanks for reading this.

Thank you! I cannot wait to show this tsb as well as others that I found to the dealer. I felt powerless when talking with them about this. they just kept making me feel like it was in my head.

Still haven't found anything that states my oil differentails are suppose to leak, they called it "sweating"

Derek,
Show this TSB to the dealer and see what they say about the differential. :w00t:

Miami are you asleep at the wheel here? I'm surprised you missed this TSB for the oil leak. :cigareta: Who put you in charge? :bigemo_harabe_net-01:

Thank you for that TSB! I have the same problem and my dealership proposed that they keep my car for a couple days and test it out themselves because they haven't found anything wrong with the headlights. I dreaded the idea of having to bum rides to work and school but now I can show this to them and HOPEFULLY they'll resolve this issue.

Thanks again!

Ok so update!

I called them at about ten in the morning. Mind you I called them not them calling me even though they kept my car and drove it home to see if they could get the car to the headlight dimming. The phone call went like this-

Ring Ring-

Harold-Hello this is harold (Avondale Hyundai)

Derek-Good morning, I was wondering if you had an update for me.

Harold-Yeah the tech drove it home and said that it wouldn't do anything, there is nothing wrong with your car. (In one of those voices, like your bothering me)

Derek- well that is interesting, Because I found a list of tsb's from hyundai and I found a tsb that describes my problem exactly.

Harold- uh uh uh

Derek- Would you like to number for tsb?

Harold- uh Sure,

Derek 08-be-004

Harold- let my tech look into it.

Derek- yeah you do that.

It was ten in the morning.. didn't get a call until four thirty saying it was a wiring harness of some sort and it needed to be ordered. they needed to keep it another day. This is the third day. No loaner, he said they only have two loaners now and there doing away with it. I think they are lying about everything at this moment. None the less hope this fixes the problem. When I get it home tomorrow. I will test it. If it fixes the problem I will post it. I cannot thank you guys enough for the help.

The seals are actually leaking "oil" ? If so, and the dealer says basically "leaking oil is normal", that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Unless something was overfilled then it could/would happen.

Please clarify what you mean by "leaking." If transaxle fluid is leaking out of the seals, collecting towards the bottom of the differential case and dripping on the ground, I believe that repair is covered by the TSB. My car shows a faint stain (looks almost wet) below the seal, but it does not collect anywhere or drip. I showed it to my dealer and he said that was "normal." There is never a drop of trans fluid on the garage floor, either.

Its not quite dripping on to the cement. It is however doing what you say, and collecting at the lowest point. I have seen very wet spot with almost a drip or two. When I was down there changing my oil, I noticed this. I guess I will have to wait until I see drops on the ground. Thanks for your input.

Just for the record, I just had my '06 Sonata GLS V6 in to have the dimming lights addressed (per the TSB), as well as a slow front-passenger window, which I figured might require them ordering a regulator.

Verdict:

Dimming lights - the tech cleaned all the grounds in the engine compartment (per the TSB), and the car tested within specs afterward. So far (it's been three days) it's been perfect. No dimming; no slowing climate control fan speeds. The car actually seems to operate better when starting from a stop (i.e. around town), as it doesn't seem as "lurchy" as before. Maybe I was losing power at idle more than I knew, and throttle would cause the car to sort of lurch start instead of smoothly starting. I wasn't LOOKING for any changes -- it's just something that now feels different (better).

Slow window - tech said there was "crud" in the window guides, and cleaned them. It now raises and lowers at the same rate as the passenger BACK window. We'll see if it holds up.

So, just FYI... I wanted to share my light-dimming service results with the group.
