QUOTE(wymi @ Jun 24 2008, 10:03 PM) So are there different clips available that hold the spoiler on better? Can I get just the clips?
No the clips arent different. This is what the bulletin says to do. We take the clips off of the spoiler and put 2 tiny 4mm diameter washers in between the spoiler and the clip. all it does is make the clip go farther into the hole so that it locks into place.

QUOTE(ohio_port_employee @ Jun 24 2008, 05:55 PM) They know it happens because they got the same bulletin we did. The funny thing is Depending on when the car was purchased I might have installed that spoiler. Of course that was before the bulletin came out about them coming off because the clips dont go into the drilled holes deep enough.
Hey thanks for all you help, and admitting you might have been responsible too! The TSB specifically deals with the 08 Model Year, and he has two 07's. You must know that sometimes getting the needed Warranty help is not that easy. Were you there working on the 07 Models too, and were the same parts used?

QUOTE(craigbrooks @ Jun 24 2008, 07:43 PM) I just tonight installed this spoiler on my car with 3M tape (photos to follow in another thread). The instructions said to drill two holes but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that yet so I used tape. Seems to be holding on well. Time will tell. If it comes loose I'll have it professionally installed by someone I can blame if they intercourse it up. :amen:
What I'm getting at is the 3M tape seems to work well.
BTW SpoilerKing $124.00 painted.
Wow, sounds like you did a really terrible job there Big Dog! :bwekk: My question, did you install this spoiler tonight before or after reading 'ohio_port_employee's post.?

Well they use the exact same part number spoiler for the 07 platinum and the 08 bright silver SE so I dont see why the tsb wouldnt cover it. As far as being to blame I was installing them exactly like hyundai said to. I have been working for the port im at since march of 2007 and I started installing spoilers in may of 07. The bulletin came out in late july or early august and by that time we already were in to the 08 model year. But they are the same part number for the spoiler even on the 09 sonata.

QUOTE(alex2006sonata @ Jun 24 2008, 10:23 PM) I have been looking at that exact same spoiler on ebay. The M-3 lip spoiler just doesn't have quite enough to it for my liking, but I like the one they offered for $124 painted and shipped. Let us know how the 3m tape holds up, because I wouldn't want to drill holes myslef.
Alex, The tape held the leading edge just fine but the trailing edge not very well. I'm not happy with that. I just went down to our local Auto Trim shop and they told me $20.00 to drill and mount the spoiler. That's what I'm going to do. Piece of mind is worth $20.00. BTW it looks great on the Sonata! Go ahead my friend and order yours, you will be very happy.

I found on my 08 SE that there were a significant number of metal chips left over from the drilling in the trunk lid. I found this out after I noticed some spots/streaks of rust near the rubber seal by the rear window and above the bumper. I ended up removing the lid liner and removed a whole bunch of chips (air hose works well). I haven't had a chance to see why/where there is water leaking in yet - that's next. So, as a heads up you might want to check your trunk lids for chips before they allow rust to really kick in!!!

Yeah we blow air through them after drilling the holes. My port doesn't service New York thats the new jersey port i believe. I was talking to the head of hyundai of america quality assurance today and they are working on a way to ensure all the metal shavings are gotten out. So far the only thing they can come up with is compressed air and shaking them. If there is water leaking in check the tape seal on the top of the decklid with a stiff piece of paper it shouldn't go in very far. if it does thats where your leak would be. I'm going to save the pics you posted and show the guy from hyundai that is at my port this week to let him know what is getting shipped that shouldnt be.

I looked at the tsb today and it does cover the 07 model year as well so if it comes off hyundai should warranty it.
