Hello all I work at a port and oversee port installed options and was wondering if anybody has had their spoiler come loose.

I'm talking about the ones that look like this by the way.

I see a lot of 07 and 08 Sonata's with spoilers coming loose, especially the 07 Platnium editions. They just take it off, take the old tape off and replace it with new tape.

The 2009 Sonata SE spoilers are screwed on so I wouldn't expect them to come off.

As for aftermarket versions that use tape- I suppose that is possible but mine hasn't shown any signs of coming off.

What is the difference between Port installed options & Dealer installed options?

I thought all Factory/Dealer/Port Spoilers screw on. Anyone can tape one on :whistling:

Well i guess that kinda what I'm saying. The spoiler he's talking about is screwed on, so I don't understand how it could just fall off. Mine is an aftermarket M3 lip spoiler that uses 3M tape and even that I can't really see coming off...at least not any time soon.

The ones I install don't just tape on. The one i pictured is a port installed spoiler. that spoiler is the only spoiler an SE sonata is supposed to get. believe it or not they are only held on with five 5/8ths metal clips and the 3m tape.
I was just curious if they were coming off of the platinums from 07 and the SE's of 08 because they released a port bulletin late last year where we modify the clips to hold better.
The difference between port installed and dealer installed is most of the port installed stuff like the bluetooth and spoilers the dealers aren't allowed to install

And the PDF is in Color. Madder, I think I've had my Color settings

set to Black & White. Gracie looks beautiful in Black! :trophy:

My 2007 Platinum Edition spoiler is raised up a little on the passenger side. I tried pushing it down but it pops right back up. How can I take it off to replace the tape?

Could you follow the installation PDF in reverse?

I'm not sure how Hyundai's warranty works but if it's under warranty I'd take it to the dealer. If it's out of warranty and you want to try and fix it yourself you can try to pull the spoiler off and retape it with 3m tape. I will say this most of the time when you take one off the clips break.
I do know that they found a design flaw in the spoiler and thats why we have to modify the clips. The dealer should cover this under warranty because of that I think.

I thought about that, but I'm not sure about the clips that hold the spoiler on. I don't know if they are a one time deal or can be re-used. I also don't want to damage anything during removal.

Is it safe to just pull the spoiler up? Oh. and my dealer can not be trusted to do this right.

If you were closer I would do it for you but I already had to go to a dealer in a west suburb of chicago to put a spoiler on and I'm not looking to make that trip again anytime soon lol

WYMI, hi! Take it in for a Warranty claim! I would love them to say it doesn't happen, or it is just your 07. I bet they will help
