Hey guys,
I own a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 93,000 miles on it.
I didn't get an oil change for about 9 months (i drove 6000 miles in this period) and i think my transmission fluid color is dark red- a little brown-ish.....so IF the actual transmission has been damaged...will the hyundai warranty cover it?
or will they ask for proof that i got oil change every 3 months/3000 miles?
Thanks a lot

Dear scythian,
The transmission fluid is a seperate issue from the oil change, so let's seperate the two.
The SPIII fluid does turn brown, but only requires a replacement change per the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual every 105,000 miles. You have not violated that warranty...yet.
For the 3,000 mile oil change warranty, again read what your owner's manual says. This only applies to oil from the dealer. If you installed a synthetic or synthetic blend oil, the change interval and warranty from the brand of oil provide you protection. Many syn oils now say 7500 mile change interval.
If the dealer has a problem with that, remember point #1...the transmission fluid and the oil change are completely seperate issues.

thanks for the replies guys
in addition to the brown-ish color, the car seems to have trouble changing gears especially when it is around the 50 mark, it makes a heavy/deep moaning noise, but once i am on the freeway and the car is at 75ish, the noise goes away
this noise has to be related with the transmission right? or is there anything else that i need to get checked? i am thinking of getting a transmission fluid flush, and hoping that will help in eliminating this noise.

but if the mechanic says there is damage to the tranmission, i will take it to the dealer, and hopefully the warranty will cover most of the cost
