Hi all

I'm new to the forum. Just picked up a 99 accent gsi 1.5L so I'll probably be here a lot.. ;)

I was hoping someone could help me with a tranny prob.

When the car is idling there is a rattling sound in the transmission. If I push the clutch pedal all the way down it stops. The guy I bought it from swears its the release bearing and has been making noise for years with no other issues. Other than that noise the transmission operates fine. No issues shifting.

First off does that make sense and could I get away with doing nothing? The car has 145,000 KM on it and per prev owner the clutch has never bee replaced. How long do they usually last?

How hard is replacing the clutch? I'm fairly handy at these sorts of things but have never done a clutch before. Can anyone post a link to some instructions. (Pitures are good too)

THANKS!!!!!!!

our 99 accent did the same thing on its origional clutch and the replacment clutch...
dont try adjusting it, its hydralic and doesnt require adjusting.
just ignore the sound and drive till the clutch starts to slip then get a new one and fly wheel, dont resurface it.
did that on the 99 and once was wamed up it would warp and make the trans vibrate on acceleration...
its worth replacing if the rest of the cars good.
ours was replaced at 168,000 kms and now the old beast has 238,000 (friends have it now) treat the car right, all proper maitenace and oil changes and it will last a long long time.
remmeber timing belts every 95,000 kms

Cool thanks for the info. Hopefully that is in fact what is wrong. The clutch doesn't slip at all right now..... The car has mostly been driven per prev owner on vancouver island so not very much wear to the clutch I would think. What is the approx KM life of the clutch on this car?
