Anyone have this problem...i store change for coffee in the ash tray...went to open it today and the tray looked like it had been pushed in to far by about 1/4 inch.i tried reaching behind from the drivers side as the passengers side has no access. very tight fit and no love.

looked on Hma service for a break down...no clear info on removal as i am hoping that i do not have to remove most of the dash to get at this. Advice appreciated....W

If it's anything like my Elantra, removing the dash is the only way to get at this problem. Did the spring maybe snap on the plate that allows the ashtray to slide out on its own? See if you can't get something flat in on top of the ashtray to assist it out for further inspection.

Hi there

The only way to reach the ashtray is to remove the wooden looking plastic trim, the ashtray is attached to it. First you have to pull back the covering under the steering wheel (picture 1), then you have to pull back the wooden like trim carefully (picture 2), it has many clips, you start from the ignition key side and go to the right carefully, then do the reverse and push hard on clips to put it back in place..

Hi deniz,

thank-you for the info.
(Downloaded plans from HmaService)I started with the drivers side console kick panel,it has a screw cover that snaps into place with clockwise motion( HMA manuals only mention 1 screw,it also has two clips and a plastic wheel slot that the panel slides into)...screw cover broke when gently removed...also has two clips above the screw that are held on by tension and no way to reach them...they do make a nice pinging sound when they let loose into the recesses of the floor under the console.

No way to reach the clips as space under there is at a premium ,AC ,Airbag control and Vent ducting to name a few are tucked under this ashtray area. There wasnt a way to re-attach the clips as there is no access to them even if i had found them...this floor console must have been assembled first and then installed into the SF.

I tried nudging and bumping and the beating the ashtray door with no luck....left it alone for a day and then went back to it. i was nudging the door again the next day and then i tapped on then Passenger side of the Dash console at ashtray the level....door moved a bit...hit it again and it came open....i have no idea what is on this side to be able to release the stuck tray...there was only a few coins for parking in the tray, these were not the cause of it being jammed as near as i can tell.

Anyone know where a proper shop Manual can be purchase for the SF? HMA is a nice tool but i have found this lacking info each time i have used it. it seems to have mostly American specs as well.
