My wife and I recently purchased a used (15,000 miles) Elantra. If I understand correctly, the alarm is activated after you get out and use the key fob to lock the doors. Every day when my wife is at work, the alarm goes off repeatedly. Today we locked it and went into a store for about ten minutes, and when we came out it was going off. Any ideas why it is going off so frequently? Is there anything we can do to correct this? Thanks very much for any replies.

Many folks have reported that the hood switch needs adjustment. The dealer can quickly make this adjustment

What exactly makes the alarm go off? I have an 2008 Elantra SE and I set up and went up and tried the doors, the trunk, I shook the car and it never went off.

Hello!

I have a 2008 Elantra GLS, not sure if it applies here, but I had a similar issue and it did turn out that the hood sensor post was missing.
You should be able to hit the "lock" button on your fob twice within 4 seconds and your Elantra should either Honk once or beep (depending on the security package) if the lights flash, but you never hear a honk or beep, this means one of the doors (including the trunk and hood) are ajar, or the sensor is not being tripped. My dealer told me to get in the habit of hitting the lock button twice because if it doesn't honk, it could be broken into easier.

I just got my Elantra 3 weeks ago and noticed this was happening. it was driving me nuts until I looked over each sensor and trip post (it's a little rubber post mounted to the doors) and noticed that on my hood, there was one missing.
The dealership provided one to me free of charge. I'm sure they would do the same for you if they want you to buy another Hyundai in the future!

Good luck and let us know how it turned out!
