2002 Accent Auto Transmission, hatchback 1.6 Engine

I think I need to have the following done; spark plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, cleaning the throttle, check the o2 sensor..

Anythingelse I should do? 21mpg in city 33 mpg in hwy

somebdoy on a different folder said he cleaned the carberator. This car does not have carberator does it?

My wife's '04 auto - 1.6l - 96k miles gets 26 city & 36 highway so I don't think your to far behind. I still have the original plug wires & coil packs on hers. I do reg. oil changes 2500 - 3000miles - plugs every 20k miles - keep a clean air filter. tire pressure is 40psi.
With that being said compare your maintenance to mine. Your highway miles seem fine and your city miles should be up 3mpg. Are you a "leadfoot" driver? I don't think '02's have a carb, I think they have a throttle body like my '04. Easy to clean just remove air induction hose from air filter assembly, twist throttle linkage and spray some throttle body cleanr and clean with a cloth. If you can find your fuel filter under the rear seat compartemnt go ahead and replace that. I wouldn't worry about the O2 sensor unless you were getting a code for that. Try a quality fuel system cleaner for two tanks of gas and re-evaluate your mileage. Good Luck!!

You could try Sea foaming the engine.

http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm

Helped my car run smoother & improve the mileage some and that was with 123K on it.
