Hi,

I have a 54 plate getz and recently the radio broke (official hyundai one) and I bought one from argos to put in it's place,

I removed the existing radio using the removal tools like this one:

(IMG:http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/ProductImages/largeimages/ford_din_large.jpg)

but there seems to be a metal cage fixed in the remaining hole which I don't know how to remove.

I phoned up my hyundai garage and they said that they wouldn't try and remove it and that I would need to go to a specialist car audio store to let them have a look (pricey?)

Can somebody please guide me through the process of removing this cage please!

the metal cage is easy to remove. if you look at your new radio you will see that it has a metal cage also, this will give you a clue to how it's fitted in place (the metal tabs on the cage are simply bent over to hold the cage in the facia panel

Thanks for the reply,

I have looked in and the cage is secured at the back to the innards of the dashboard with a bolt and the rest of it is screwed in behind the centre console, it isn't like the normal metal sleeve that you get with car radios where you bend the pins back to make it secure, it is actually screwed in!

Please help! :(

i used that factory cage to mount my aftermarket head. most aftermarket cages that come with the unit wont have the tab at the back. it isnt actually bolted to anything at the back but there is a rubber grommet to help support the rear of the head unit. the front is bolted in the usual way. i reckon its worth reusing.

To remove the cage, I've posted some very brief instructions in my own thread (also near the top of this forum).

The 'bolt' at the back isn't actually a bolt, as AlexS said, it's just a support.

I'm picking up a new Pioneer head unit today. The Head Unit itself has a screw-in grommet which you can use to add support, instead of the actual cage having it. I've noticed that hole for the grommet is also on my VX Commodore, I'd say it's a standard fitting on most newer cars.

I'll be taking photos of the installation (I already have some on my phone of removing the fascia and the cage) and I'll post them all up here when I get a chance.

Just be warned, if you're not qualified to remove/install a car stereo, you do ALL of this stuff at your own risk and expense!!!!
