I need to adjust my parking brake. Lee Hyundai wants 41 bucks to do it, but I ain't about to fork that over...thats 3/4 tank of gas! HMAservice doesn't show how to adjust it really. Does anyone know how to do it? The last one I did wasn't on a Hyundai, but it was a fairly simple turnbuckle on the cable before it split to the two rear tires. The Azeras cables run in tubes and go up into oblivion where it splits, so I don't know how to do it properly. I'd assume I'd have to yank the rear rotors off and adjust it somehow that way...but again, I've never done it that way, nor have I done it on a Hyundai. I sure wish the pull style was on the Azera, as I'm not a fan of the foot brand.

The reason for adjusting is, the brake won't hold even when having it all the way floored on our driveway. its a steep 20 degree slope, but it should still hold. The Sonata holds fine. But the Azera always rolls (slowly, but it goes). I can put it in park and it stops, but I don't want the weight of the car on the tranny! Most of the time its in the garage, but when I do have it out (like when working on the Sonata) I'd like to have it secured by the cheap brake pad and not the expensive transmission (which I know its covered, but I don't want that pain in the **** trouble!).

Curious, why would this adjustment not be covered under the warranty?

That is what I was told by one of the Marx brothers at one of the local dealerships I've visited.

"one of the Marx brothers at one of the local dealerships"

That sir, is a perfect description of my encounters with local Hyundai dealer sales and service department personnel. Made my day.

^^^ sounds about right. I got a letter from my dealer the other day. They noticed I hadnt had my vehicle serviced with them recently. Hmmm.. ya think...?? I can change my own oil in my own driveway in 30 minutes with full synthetic for 2/3rd's the price you guys charge for labor and conventional, or give up my car for a whole day and wait for your shuttle to pick me up at work. You dont fix stuff right the first time, and when I do finally get my car in there you say its not a failure and you cant do anything about it. F OFF :rant2:

To Date:

Air bag light / passenger seat sensor.. brought in TWICE... still have same problem

Sunroof out of alignment... "fixed"... still wrong, had to adjust it myself to get it right

Suspension.. TSB done, still noisy as ever

Steering wheel wood chipped, thread fraying.. "not material failure" won't do anything.

Trip computer randomly resets.. "not reproducible, no problem detected"

Yeah, I haven't had much luck with service. I got my rear wheels balanced Monday, and you can still here the Whoo Whoo Whoo Whoo sound driving down the road. Obviously out of balance still. I might take it to Firestone and have them do it, since they can do it right. I'm going up to MD/DE and NJ for the next week to visit family and vacation, and I think I'm going to get tired of that sound when the radio is off!

I did adjust my parking brake, and it works fine now. I took the whole console apart, but you can just pop the bottom cover in the arm rest compartment out, and adjust the nut there. It really was a 5 minute job, but I took my time taking it all apart (which its nice to know how anyways in case of some other crap happens).

The Whoo Whoo Whoo Whoo sound you are hearing may be the the fact that the tires are cupping and have nothing to do with the balance. Basically, the tires are in a self destruct mode.

I am having the same problem with my tires after only 16,000 miles. I constantly am hearing the whoo, whoo sound.

Let me guess. Would that have been Groucho?

It must have been because Harpo works at one of the dealerships here in my city.

At least you've heard from them. I've had my car a year now and haven't heard a peep from my selling dealer. I don't understand it, they were my best friends when I bought the car. :whistling:

My Mitsubishi dealer by contrast has communicated with me via e-mail and snail mail and the salesman has even called a few time to see if every thing was going well. When I went back in to the dealer to pick up my license plates, the owner gave me a private showing of their new Evo which had just come off the truck. He wasn't trying to sell me one, he was just excited to show it. These guys know how to run a business and sell cars and keep customers. Wish I could say that for the 3 near by Hyundai dealers I've dealt with.
