I got this 1998 sonata this past April and first the dash custer gauge light stop working but that OK cause I don't drive at night and now today the tail light are messing up. I get no voltage reading on left rear wiring, I have no fuse for the tails lights under dash driver side, found one under the hood but if the right side works that fuse must be OK? Is there another one that seperates the left from the right?

Dear art,

You have a 10 year old Sonata. With the ATA and Mini fuses, a problem called thermal fatigue occurs when the car is advanced in age. Thermal fatigue can be a hairline crack that causes an intermittent fault or break in the fuse. These are sometimes literally a crack that is almost invisible. Found out the hard way with a 1991 Volvo.

Head to Autozone or Checker. Buy one of the combination fuse tester and fuse assortment kits. Buy the one that matches your car, which I think is the Mini fuses. The kit is about 16 bucks. Also, buy an extra box of 10 amp fuses as approximately 60% of your fuse box is 10 amp fuses. Start testing and replacing. This will solve your current electrical problem.

I tested the fuse with ohms meter its good but still no left tail light. what I dont understand is that I have right side tail lights that glow but on left side no voltage per volt meter. Why is this circuit split?
