Does anyone know what is included in the 60000 mile service for the 2006 sonata. my dealer quoted $700.00 for this and thought it sounded kind of high.

$700? Ouch! The manual shows what services are required and recommended, and it really shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred bucks, if that. EDIT: According to the manual, the required maintenance for 60,000 miles is as follows: Lube, Oil and Filter Change Air Cleaner Filter Replacement Fuel Tank Air Filter Replacement (I've read that most dealers won't do this) Coolant (Flush and Fill) Air Conditioner Filter Replacement (for Evaporator & Blower Unit) All other maintenance items are listed as "Inspect." Many (NOT ALL) dealers/techs are lazy/cheap and don't do most of the inspections, but gladly charge you for tons of labor as if they did. I'd have them stick to the five items listed above.

i took the owners manual into the dealer last night and showed it to the service manager. they are adding like 5 additional items on there 60000 mile service which is driveing the price up! they added spark plugs which is over half of the total cost alone because of the difficulty in getting to them. I dont even need spark plugs! i got away with the recommended service in the book for $250.00 and stayed compliant with my warrenty.

QUOTE(ReBeL_BLaK @ Jun 17 2008, 06:11 PM) Well I just had the 30k done a couple of days ago it cost me $299.
I was pretty happy and satisfied as the car felt brand new (having bought it used I could only imagine) .... until the I found out they didnt even change the oil!!!
Their excuse: Its not included in the price!
So, what did they do for $299 for your 30k service? (curious myself as I am coming close to that mileage for my 2007 Sonata)

My local dealer charges $410 for 4 cyl and $450 for 6 cyl sonatas for the 30/60k service. What they do:
Change oil/filter Clean throttle body and install fuel conditioner Replace air filter Drain/replace engine coolant Service/clean batter terminals check charging system Chech hoses, belts, lines Rotate/balance tires Clean/adjust brakes Inspect a/c, charge and check for leaks Check exhaust system for damage Inspect drive lines/front end components Service transmission Replace spark plugs (platinum extra) 27pt vehicle inspection & "Complimentary" car wash.
Brake fluid, drive belts and timing belts are replaced at 60k miles service and not included in price.
I'm only at 15k miles right now on my 06 Sonata and they want $200 for that service, which includes all above except engine coolant, throttle body clean, transmission service and spark plugs.
Thoughts?

My local dealership also add cost of spark plugs into their 30/60/90k maintenance package, but I think the manual states 97.5k miles before they should be replaced unless 'driving under severe conditions' such as alot of idling or long distance driving at low speeds. Not sure when I should get mine replaced as we do drive in traffic quite a bit, although only averaging 6k miles a year.

QUOTE(il06gt @ Jun 18 2008, 07:10 PM) I am sorry guys...but these 30, 60, 90 deals are a total scam.
If you don't have a good dealer with decent prices, find a reputable independent shop and just stay on top of the routine maintenance. These one size fit all deals are a scam just like the 3K mile oil change.
Depending on where you live, like in a severe area, your advice is worthless. Read the Article but chuckle over the Menus http://articles.directorym.com/Practical_A...es-a853789.html

Anytime I happen to be at a car dealer, I make it a habit to peruse the "menu's" for these "periodic maintenance" services. I have seen charges as high as $1500. And they are invariably loaded with "inspections". Car sales are in the basement right now, and dealers are going after customers in the service area with a vengeance to make up for it. But, to the automotive "challenged", these long service "menu's" are like comfort food - they make it sound like your car is getting the royal treatment when, in reality, you're lucky to get an oil change (filter? forget it.).

What advice? Your own posting backs up my statement. These menus you posted are all total scams. The first is a $100 oil change and tire rotation...the second is a first class ticket to the cleaners. As for the oil change at 3K miles? Please... There is zero benefit to changing at 3K vs. 5K for 99% of drivers...probably more like 99.9%. The most exhaustive (and independent) study on oil change interval (on arguably the most severe use of autos) proved that the optimal change interval was 7500-8000 miles. Ironically, Hyundai recommends 7500 miles. MOST of us operate in "normal" conditions..not severe. If MOST of us operated under severe, it would be called normal....but it is not.

QUOTE(kn5owa @ Jun 19 2008, 06:57 PM) BMW touts something called the Ultimate Service which is supposed to provide maintenance for four years - including brakes and wiper blades.
A friend of mine bought one and got a total of one oil/filter change a year during the four years he had the plan. They did use Mobil One synthetic oil, though. At least, they said they did.
All depends on driving conditions and what the onboard computer says. The I-drive would tell him when he needed an oil changed based on driving conditions. Bmw gives free oil services when the monitor goes down to 0 miles or at least once a year, whichever comes first. That would translate to a minimum of 4 free oil changes during that span. It's actually a pretty comprehensive system. I had 7 oil changes, brakes/rotors, drive belts and one battery replaced among other things during that period. Unfortunately, the one year of free service by my Hyundai dealership only covers three standard oil changes and one tire rotation.
