Fast approaching the 100K mark in the wife's '04 Accent (auto. trans 1.6l). So far the only real problem she's had is the cassette player is jammed...lololol. And check engine light for a misfire baffled me until I used 4 cans/fill ups of fuel inj. cleaner whch solved my problem.
I've done my own regular maintenance, oil changes every 3K, plugs, trans. flushed @ 65K, radiator flushed @ 65K.
New timing belt & kit - water pump @ 90K.
The only thing I haven't done is new ignition wires & coil packs but I tested them with some water sprayed on them and they didn't arc at all. How much life does the tranny have left in her. Fluid is clean and she shifts fine. Car is driven 80% highway & 20% city.
Rear brakes are the only thng that haven't been touched yet.
Any concerns once I hit the 100K mark? How long do these trannys last? We were thinking of getting a new '09 Accent GLS but can't seem to justify getting rid of this '04 since it runs like new!!!

sounds good to me, just watch out.

These cars are just usually out of luck. I've had some hyundais that the tranny dies at 70k, i've had some that the engine died at 5,000 miles (YES 5 thousand miles), but then I seen some with tons of miles still running well.

keep with the regular maintenance.

I had to do an O2 sensor & MAF sensor at a little over 100K. Other than that just the timing belt/water pump at 120K.

jbimmolate:
Did you have any codes that came up? Did your car get the check engine light with 1128? I am having issues with mine, and have ordered the maf. I also have 120k and also am having spark knock.

Yes I got the code. I tried cleaning my old one several times and it would be ok for about a week then it would come on again. I changed the MAF and soon after I got the code for the O2 sensor. I think from it running wrong it may have burned out the O2 sensor. It was running bad before I replaced both items. I also Seafoamed the engine and that cleaned everything out really good.

Thanks for the info, I have the O2 sensor and will pick up the MAF tonight. I will also go down to the car wash and hose it down and clean it out.
Thanks for the info and let me know when you hit 150k.

The Seafoam is an internal engine cleaner. It's a single bottle. You put 1/3 in the oil, 1/3 in the fuel and 1/3 in the intake while it's running. That cleanes out the engine from all angles.
