Hello Friends,
My girlfiend has a 2000 Elantra. She recently developed the clicking sound when turning that is associated with faulty CV joints. I inspected the car this weekend and found that the outboard CV boot on the passenger side had split. It had split cleanly around the small part of the joint similar to this one
http://www.samarins.com/glossary/cv_boot4.jpgKnowing she had the 10/100 powertrain warranty, and without telling them what I had discovered, I called some random Hyundai dealers and asked if this would be covered. They said that as long as there was no obvious damage to the axles (i.e. bent from sideswiping a curb), and the boots weren't damaged/torn, then they would cover it. So I read through the warranty information in the owner's manual and found that the warranty covers gaskets and seals.
My question is this, will a dealer honor the warranty on this kind of damage? Obviously I'm trying to avoid incurring extra cost in this repair as I could handle it myself, but I'd like to get full use out of her warranty. Also it just seems as this is more of the boot failing rather then a rock or something damaging it.
Any guidance or clarity you can provide would be great. Thanks!
Erik
