Hi All

The engine in my trajet made a wzzzzzzz type of sound
two months ago .the sound comes from the right side
behind the front wheel . It is related to the engine speed .
obviously , I considered the timing components are the
cause . when opened the timing belt cover ,I found
out the source of sound comes from exactly the timing
belt B tensioner pulley . I used a piece hose to pin point
source of sound .

I replaced the suspected pulley . but unfortunately the
sound is still there . Is it the oil pump . when the engine
stops for two days the sound disappears for the first 20
seconds of operation , then comes back again .

this sound seems to be common , because I heard it
from a passing by sonata a few days a go .

Nothing rotates there except the right counter balance
Shaft , the oil pump gears and the tensioner B pulley
Which is excluded .

My engine has clocked 150 k .

Any assistance is appreciated .

Hi Mazen,

Regarding the 'wzzzz' sound, mine also have that sound. The mileage now is 169k. Few days ago, one trajet passing by me & I heard that sound also. I also wonder where is the sound came from. Still investigate it.

Hi hmd

Have you located the source of the sound , is it comming from

the location I described earlier . I was much warried that a pully

might be the cause , which will lead to timing belt breaking .

but now i am sure it is something else .

If you find out the source of noise please post it .

regards

Hi, My Trajet have the same sound few months ago and I found that it came from the pulley that is attached to the crank shaft where both the belts are fixed to it. I believe the pulley is old or damage after so many kilometers. The higher the rpm the more noise. Hope this will help

Hi Explorer 1

Thanks for the gool illustration you made . this is the crank shaft pulley ,

it rotates the drive and alternator belts . it cosists of two parts with

thin layer of flexable silicon or plastic in between. this pulley is known

to cause troubles , some even advise to replace it with timing belts .

Unfortunately it is not the cause of the sound I hear for sure , I removed

this pulley along with the drive and altarnator belts and operated the engine

for a while ,the sound was still there .

Hi All

The sound has finally gone . I changed the engine oil . It seems the internal

counter balance shafts bearings which are lubrecated by the engine oil

are the source of noise . the used engine oil was a good brand , have

no idea why that happend . I change the engine oil once a year .
