I would like to take them off for now because they are rather beat up and ugly. But im not sure if the lugnuts that are holding them on go right through to the actual wheel or can i just unscrew them and haul the hubcap off without having to do anything big.

Thanks.

:) Hi!,

The caps are held on by the lug nuts.

If you are thinking about replacing them with new original style ones, make sure you are sitting down when you get a quote from your dealer.

I priced some from my local dealer and she was going to give them to me for the trade price...$71.00. Each!!!!

Retail $112.00!!!!! Tell them they're dreaming!

Live with the scratches or invest in some alloys when your tyres are due for replacement.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Andrew B)

Heck, for only slightly more than that you can get some aluminum sport wheels/rims.

My local tire shop has such rims starting at just over $80 ea.

I JUST BOUGHT SOME HUB CAPS OFF OF EBAY FOR MY ELANTRA THAT ARE NOT HELD ON BY THE LUG NUTS. I PAID $10.00 FOR THE CAPS AND $9.00 FOR SHIPPING. THEY WERE USED BUT IN GREAT SHAPE. I HATE THE "BOLT ON TYPE" AND THE NEW ONES LOOK GREAT! ALSO.. I BOUGHT 4 FACTORY ALUMINUM WHEELS AND MICHELINS OFF OF EBAY FOR $90.00 PLUS SHIPPING. I WENT FROM 14" TO 15" AND THE RIDE AND LOOKS BOTH GOT BETTER. THE WHEELS ARE FROM A 2000 SONATA WITH 4 LUGS. GO TO A USED WHEEL/TIRE SHOP AND THEY MAY BE ABLE TO FIX YOU UP. EVEN SOME IMPORT SALVAGES HAVE THE WHEELS CHEAP

hubcaps are held on by lugnuts, but this doesn't mean you cant take them off and get rid of old hubcaps. be sure to put lugs back on and tighten. Go to Pep Boys, or one of the other mass merchants and get a set of plastic hubcaps for less than $20, verify size before buying. I did this on my 99 and it worked fine.

Mine are held on by the same lugs that hold the actual wheel on. I'd need to put it on a jackstand just to change the caps.

I think i'll wait 'till summer to do this.
