Okay, here's the deal. I own a Scoupe and I love the thing massively. It was acquired for $450 as a wreck. The previous owner hit a 300lb bear at around 30 mph, rendering the front clip demolished. I got the parts and all of that taken care of, replaced a shedload of other essentials and practically renewed the car.

So, during this adventure, I came across the fact that certain parts only fit with my car. Turbo parts. But my car's NA. What the ****? Then there's other little telltale signs that maybe -- just maybe, my car was once a turbo model. It has the skirting around the sides, the rear bumper is extended slightly to addopt the twin-tip exhaust, also from what I've heard, a turbo exclusive. Then there's the fact that there appears to be badging missing from the trunklid also. It has no documentation as far as manuals or service info books or....anything.

So, that boils down finally to: Is it, or was it, a Turbo Car? Or is there some other discrepancies that point it toward as badgeless LS? Someone shed light???

Cheers,
Jetboy

You get the Base model, the LS then the GT.

What is the MAX speed on your Speedo cluster? 220kph?

Does it say turbo on your intake manifold?

If you have a Base model look were the scoupe turbo gauge sit's Does it look like one could be inserted?

The Base is Blank
the LS has a Insert for it
the GT has it.

Does your car have a spot light switch?

If it was original a turbo model:
-it has leatherinterior (brown,green black)
-it has a turbogauge 6 or 7 LEDs
-FogLights and switch
-Has GT and/or turbo in carregistration
-Has thicker axles than te N/A scoupe

Or someone was being "smart" to just Convert a N\A scoupe into a turbo model:)

130 mph cluster, insert in the dash but no LEDs, basic ECFI Manifold, no foglight switch. So, plausible LS now.. Interesting. But why certain parts (ex. turbo's Fuel filter) fit? I'm not arguing, just genuinely curious, you see.

And finally the dumb question: What all would I need to turn her into a Turbo model? I'd imaging that different injectors, the turbo flange, ECU changed and a lot of tubing. Anything else? And thank you all for your assistance. :)

Here in holland only turbo's have leather interior. Only hyundai turbo that doesnt have leather here is the rare Excel Rally edition (with scoupe turbo) which has race seats :)

On the turbo question: Schwitzer is the expert on scoupe+turbo :P

Drives: Modified (180 b.h.p.) `95 Hyundai S-Coupe Turbo SE ....Sadly now sold & replaced with an `04 Alfa Romeo 156 2-litre Veloce! :-http://aol.photobox.co.uk/album/thumbnails.html?c_album=7089276&page=all

The easiest way to see whether you have a normally-aspirated or turbocharged S-Coupe is to look at the position of the throttle-body.

On the n.a. car, it`s on the right of the surge tank (plenum chamber) whereas on the Turbo car there is an alloy up-pipe from the turbo which runs across the middle of the cam-cover & meets the surge tank centrally.....see my pic. :-

Forget about turbocharging an n.a. S-Coupe.........there are just far too many differences between the 2 models.
It would be MUCH cheaper to sell your car & buy a Turbo model!!.

Cheers,
Nick. :)
