Exciting!

Forgive me for being daft if you were the one who originally told us this, wfranklin, but is it the case that the V8 isn't coming until Aug/Sept? So all of these will be the 3.8s?

No, I was the one who said that. We were initially being told that we were getting 4 3.8L V6s in July and wouldn't get any V8s until after September because they were behind in production. However, I think my favorite (read: reliable) salesmen told me earlier this week that now they are hearing we'll be getting a V8 earlier than that.

I'll pass on anything else I find out.

UPDATE:

I was browsing the Hyundai Service website and came across this:

Subject New Content - 2009 Genesis Service Manuals

Content

Content is now available for the 2009 Genesis. This includes the Shop manual, ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) and DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) information.

This 2009 Genesis information currently covers the V6 engine only.

That is supported by the fact that we've already received the electronic parts catalog info and it contains absolutely NO information at this time about any V8 components. Well, let me rephrase that... it shows the links for it, it just says "N/A". It shows the same thing for some of the more premium options, such as the parts for the adaptive headlamps, backup camera, heated/cooled seat, etc. I am assuming these will be later production items.

The initial v8's have been allocated already. Some dealers are only ordering tech v8's though.

What will the Genesis launch rebates be? Hyundai can't sell anything without them.

I don't think we have rebate info yet. If we do, our GM is being tight lipped about it. His attitude about the whole Genesis thing is "I don't want to even talk about the car until we actually have one we can sell". I guess I can understand that, but that makes it hard to get info to pass on for those like me who are curious.

The Genesis is being shipped from Portland,Oregon. West Coast will get them first as it is close to port. The next 3 weeks most dealers should have 3.8 Genesis. 4.6 Genesis should be at dealers in September.

Hyundaiboy is right. There are currently about 144 (as of yesterday) V6 Genesis' on the lots on the west coast. That's what Hyundai dealer services is reporting, anyway.

Well, should be able to see it soon enough then I suppose. Sure is a timid rollout of such a vaunted and long-awaited new model. I'd think they'd want to blast out several thousands as quickly as possible after all of the permits and approvals were received and the car is ready to ship. Have some kind of kickoff event at the dealerships that are getting them. You guys know if there's going to be any kind of special announcement or event to introduce the Genesis at the dealerships? Or are they just going to kind of "show up" one day?

The Genesis is arriving at (some) dealerships as we speak. I just got a call from the biggest Hyundai dealership in my region, Roseville Hyundai (Sacramento area) informing me that they got a few new Genesis in today. My local dealership in Reno still doesn't have any. I'm driving down to Roseville this Saturday and going to take one for a spin. They're going to let me drive it back to back w/ an Azera to see how they stack up (those are the two cars I'm most interested in). :)

I'll be sure to post a few pics and a review. I can't wait. In a weird way I'm kind of hoping I'm not too impressed with it.....I may end up with a new car sooner than I think!

Have fun. Take lots of neat pictures if you can restrain yourself from jumping behind the wheel long enough to get a few shots ;)

Make absolutely sure to drive a 3.8 Azera. The Genesis adds 400 pounds and 30hp... I'll be interested to see if it feels as quick as the Azera with the Lambda-II.

You got it! FWIW, Hyundai is claiming the V6 Genesis will do 0-60 only .5 second slower than the V8 Genesis which should put it right around 6 seconds 0-60 and make it a bit quicker than the Azera Limited. Impressive considering the Genesis also has better EPA ratings (most likely due to Aisin 6-Speed Auto). Also keep in mind that the V6 Genesis weighs 258 lbs. less than the V8. Compared to the Azera, it's 119 lbs. heavier. Not bad at all given the size of the vehicle IMO.

Genesis V8 Curb Weight: 4006 lbs
Genesis V6 Curb Weight: 3748 lbs
Azera Limited Curb Weight: 3629 lbs

Nothing from my local dealers as yet but I did receive a Hyundai e-mail a couple of days ago announcing the V8 with 2 links "coming soon".

Oh, sure enough jwaters, I didn't even realize that it's quite a bit lighter. I only looked at the specs for the V8 :P Yeah - a 3750-pound, RWD car with a longitudinal 290hp V6 anywhere as smooth as the Lambda is in its transverse configuration in the Azera should actually be pretty slick.

The only thing that makes me hesitate to consider buying one is that I'm not sure whether or not you can get one "fully loaded" on the V6. Technology package, wood steering wheel, laser cannons, 19" wheels, Lexicon stereo, the works. And the adaptive cruise control won't be coming next year...

I sure wouldn't mind, in fact, I think I might even prefer a loaded-to-the-gills V6 just for fuel economy and long-term maintainability. I'm guessing 290hp will have enough hustle to get the job done quite splendidly.

Well, if we go by this... http://www.hyundainews.com/Media_Kits/2009...is/Features.asp
...it looks like you can get everything the V8 model offers except for "Premium Leather Seating" and "Woodgrain Steering Wheel". The engine and transmission are also different, but that's pretty obvious. :P

I'm sure you'd be able to order the Woodgrain Steering Wheel online or at your dealership parts department. :)

On a side note, where did you hear that adaptive cruise control wasn't coming next year? Everything I've heard states the opposite.

Oopse, hadn't gotten too far into my morning coffee when I wrote that... I meant to say, the adaptive cruise control won't be coming UNTIL next year.
