I have a 2002 Elantra. It seems that the lights that go on when I brake will not go off, including the one in the center rear window. My headlights go on and off as usual, but the rear bake lights are stuck. I do not know what to do, but have unhooked the battery so it will not get drained. Has this happened to anyone before? It is driving me crazy, and how do I fix it. Also, how do you change the tail lightbulbs? Do I have to take it to a shop to that, because I can't seem to get the light fixture off. Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forums :00000732:

from what you say it sounds like the brake light switch is faulty, it is mounted adjacent to the top of the brake pedel,it's easy to change but if you are not mechanically minded you may need some help. the bulb holders for the back lights pull away from the rear lamps from behind

the problem is probably with the depressor that pushes the brake light switch off when you are not pressing on the brake pedal. if this is not the problem the switch itself is faulty
