I just bought an 08 accent 5 speed 2 days ago. I am surprised at the the high rpm"s displayed on the tach. I have never driven a small engine car of this type before and I am used to cruising on the highway at 60 and taching in the 2K range. This accent cruised in 5th gear at 3K. Does that sound right? Any comments about your experiences would be appreciated. thank you vince

QUOTE(JMuise @ Jun 13 2008, 04:34 PM) Its normal and it's f*cking stupid! Yep. I hate driving on the highway through town (60kph) and knowing that it sounds like I'm in third gear >_<

QUOTE(blazianenigma @ Jun 28 2008, 09:10 PM) Yrah the sound really annoys me... ...wishing there was a 6th gear. I cruise at 80mph and Im at 4K RPMs I, also agree that my wife's manual Accent needs a 6th gear, specially with gas at $4.30 per gallon. My own Dodge Caliber w/CVT tranny would give 2700 rpm highway driving at 80MPH. However, I'm a feather footer & can deal with the 5th gear high rpms of the manual Accent OK. Yesterday, I took my wife's Accent to Mt. Rainier & 5500 foot Chinook Pass (leaving her the a/c Caliber on a hot day). With city traffic lites & shifting early on, I finally got to some high gear driving, but seldom ran over 3000 rpms. Accent rewarded my leisurely driving even up the big mountain, by giving 42.6 MPG, costing only $19.36 to drive 192 miles. In this day of $4++ gas, 10.1 cents per mile cannot be considered bad. Yeah, 4000 rpms is too much. This post has been edited by litesong: Jun 29 2008, 10:22 AM

QUOTE(DigitalAccent79 @ Jun 29 2008, 09:16 AM) That's outstanding gas mileage!! I used to live in Washington before moving to North Carolina so I know where your talking about. That's awesome! I like that the accent is really peppy around town since I don't do much highway driving, so the high rpm's don't bother me too much. I drive about 25 miles a day, all under 50mph. Yes, 'easy does it', works for alcoholics & gasoholics breaking away from their gas addiction. As a feather footer, I was hoping for 35+MPG on the Chinook climb. The 42.6 MPG came out of left field. Only my 88 Ford Festiva can beat the Accent with 46 MPG to Chinook. But it only has 65 HP. For your nostalgic information, Washington got 150% more snow than average this year & still there is 5 feet of snow at Chinook Pass. Five weeks ago I could only travel to the 2000 foot level on logging roads in other parts of the Cascades. This post has been edited by litesong: Jun 29 2008, 04:58 PM

Took another trip around the Puget Sound & avoided 4000 rpms, except a few times while accelerating. Yes, 5th gear gives reprehensiblely high rpms. But keeping my speed down to increase my enjoyment of the beautiful Puget Sound, Accent just turned in....45.1 MPG. That's immediately after the 42.6 MPG going up 5500 foot Chinook Pass.
